17:6 数羽の烏が彼に、朝、パンと肉を、また夕べにも、パンと肉を運んで来た。水はその川から飲んだ。

17:7 しばらくたって、その川も涸れてしまった。雨がこの地方に降らなかったからである。

17:8 また主の言葉がエリヤに臨んだ。

17:9 「立ってシドンのサレプタに行き、そこに住め。わたしは一人のやもめに命じて、そこであなたを養わせる。」

17:10 彼は立ってサレプタに行った。町の入り口まで来ると、一人のやもめが薪を拾っていた。エリヤはやもめに声をかけ、「器に少々水を持って来て、わたしに飲ませてください」と言った。

17:11 彼女が取りに行こうとすると、エリヤは声をかけ、「パンも一切れ、手に持って来てください」と言った。

17:12 彼女は答えた。「あなたの神、主は生きておられます。わたしには焼いたパンなどありません。ただ壺の中に一握りの小麦粉と、瓶の中にわずかな油があるだけです。わたしは二本の薪を拾って帰り、わたしとわたしの息子の食べ物を作るところです。わたしたちは、それを食べてしまえば、あとは死ぬのを待つばかりです。」

17:13 エリヤは言った。「恐れてはならない。帰って、あなたの言ったとおりにしなさい。だが、まずそれでわたしのために小さいパン菓子を作って、わたしに持って来なさい。その後あなたとあなたの息子のために作りなさい。

17:14 なぜならイスラエルの神、主はこう言われる。主が地の面に雨を降らせる日まで／壺の粉は尽きることなく／瓶の油はなくならない。」

17:15 やもめは行って、エリヤの言葉どおりにした。こうして彼女もエリヤも、彼女の家の者も、幾日も食べ物に事欠かなかった。

17:16 主がエリヤによって告げられた御言葉のとおり、壺の粉は尽きることなく、瓶の油もなくならなかった。

ＴＥＶ Ⅰ列 17:6-16

17:6 He drank water from the brook, and ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and every evening.

17:7 After a while the brook dried up because of the lack of rain.

17:8 Then the Lord said to Elijah,

17:9 "Now go to the town of Zarephath, near Sidon, and stay there. I have commanded a widow who lives there to feed you."

17:10 So Elijah went to Zarephath, and as he came to the town gate, he saw a widow gathering firewood. "Please bring me a drink of water," he said to her.

17:11 And as she was going to get it, he called out, "And please bring me some bread, too."

17:12 She answered, "By the living Lord your God I swear that I don't have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour in a bowl and a bit of olive oil in a jar. I came here to gather some firewood to take back home and prepare what little I have for my son and me. That will be our last meal, and then we will starve to death."

17:13 "Don't worry," Elijah said to her. "Go on and prepare your meal. But first make a small loaf from what you have and bring it to me, and then prepare the rest for you and your son.

17:14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: "The bowl will not run out of flour or the jar run out of oil before the day that I, the Lord, send rain."'

17:15 The widow went and did as Elijah had told her, and all of them had enough food for many days.

17:16 As the Lord had promised through Elijah, the bowl did not run out of flour nor did the jar run out of oil.
