22:1 三年間、アラムとイスラエルの間には戦いがなかった。

22:2 三年目になって、ユダの王ヨシャファトがイスラエルの王のところに下って来た。

22:3 イスラエルの王は家臣たちに、「お前たちはラモト・ギレアドが我々のものであることを知っているであろう。我々は何もせずにいて、アラムの王の手からそれを奪い返せないままでいる」と言った。

22:4 それから、ヨシャファトに向かって、「わたしと共に行って、ラモト・ギレアドと戦っていただけませんか」と尋ねた。ヨシャファトはイスラエルの王に答えた。「わたしはあなたと一体、わたしの民はあなたの民と一体、わたしの馬はあなたの馬と一体です。」

22:5 しかし同時にヨシャファトはイスラエルの王に、「まず主の言葉を求めてください」と言った。

22:6 イスラエルの王は、約四百人の預言者を召集し、「わたしはラモト・ギレアドに行って戦いを挑むべきか、それとも控えるべきか」と問うた。彼らは、「攻め上ってください。主は、王の手にこれをお渡しになります」と答えた。

22:7 しかし、ヨシャファトが、「ここには、このほかに我々が尋ねることのできる主の預言者はいないのですか」と問うと、

22:8 イスラエルの王はヨシャファトに答えた。「もう一人、主の御旨を尋ねることのできる者がいます。しかし、彼はわたしに幸運を預言することがなく、災いばかり預言するので、わたしは彼を憎んでいます。イムラの子ミカヤという者です。」ヨシャファトは、「王よ、そのように言ってはなりません」といさめた。

22:9 そこでイスラエルの王は一人の宦官を呼び、「イムラの子ミカヤを急いで連れて来るように」と言った。

22:10 イスラエルの王はユダの王ヨシャファトと共に、サマリアの城門の入り口にある麦打ち場で、それぞれ正装して王座に着いていた。預言者たちは皆、その前に出て預言していた。

22:11 ケナアナの子ツィドキヤが数本の鉄の角を作って、「主はこう言われる。これをもってアラムを突き、殲滅せよ」と言うと、

22:12 他の預言者たちも皆同様に預言して、「ラモト・ギレアドに攻め上って勝利を得てください。主は敵を王の手にお渡しになります」と言った。

22:13 ミカヤを呼びに行った使いの者は、ミカヤにこう言い含めた。「いいですか。預言者たちは口をそろえて、王に幸運を告げています。どうかあなたも、彼らと同じように語り、幸運を告げてください。」

22:14 ミカヤは、「主は生きておられる。主がわたしに言われる事をわたしは告げる」と言って、

22:15 王のもとに来た。王が、「ミカヤよ、我々はラモト・ギレアドに行って戦いを挑むべきか、それとも控えるべきか、どちらだ」と問うと、彼は、「攻め上って勝利を得てください。主は敵を王の手にお渡しになります」と答えた。

22:16 そこで王が彼に、「何度誓わせたら、お前は主の名によって真実だけをわたしに告げるようになるのか」と言うと、

22:17 彼は答えた。「イスラエル人が皆、羊飼いのいない羊のように山々に散っているのをわたしは見ました。主は、『彼らには主人がいない。彼らをそれぞれ自分の家に無事に帰らせよ』と言われました。」

22:18 イスラエルの王はヨシャファトに言った。「あなたに言ったとおりではありませんか。彼はわたしに幸運ではなく、災いばかり預言するのです。」

22:19 だが、ミカヤは続けた。「主の言葉をよく聞きなさい。わたしは主が御座に座し、天の万軍がその左右に立っているのを見ました。

22:20 主が、『アハブを唆し、ラモト・ギレアドに攻め上らせて倒れさせるのは誰か』と言われると、あれこれと答える者がいましたが、

22:21 ある霊が進み出て主の御前に立ち、『わたしが彼を唆します』と申し出ました。主が、『どのようにそうするのか』とただされると、

22:22 その霊は、『わたしは行って、彼のすべての預言者たちの口を通して偽りを言う霊となります』と答えました。主は、『あなたは彼を唆して、必ず目的を達することができるにちがいない。行って、そのとおりにせよ』と言われました。

22:23 今御覧のとおり、主がこのあなたのすべての預言者の口に偽りを言う霊を置かれました。主はあなたに災いを告げておられるのです。」

22:24 ケナアナの子ツィドキヤがミカヤに近づいて頬をなぐり、「主の霊はどのようにわたしを離れ去って、お前に語ったというのか」と言った。

22:25 「あなたが身を隠そうと部屋から部屋へと移る日にそれが分かる」とミカヤは答えた。

22:26 イスラエルの王は命じた。「ミカヤを捕らえ、町の長アモンと王子ヨアシュのもとに引いて行って、

22:27 言え。『王はこう言われる。この男を獄につなぎ、わたしが無事に帰って来るまで、わずかな食べ物とわずかな飲み物しか与えるな。』」

22:28 ミカヤは王に、「もしあなたが無事に帰って来ることができるなら、主はわたしを通して語られなかったはずです」と言い、「すべての民よ、あなたたちも聞いておくがよい」と言った。

22:29 イスラエルの王は、ユダの王ヨシャファトと共にラモト・ギレアドに攻め上った。

22:30 イスラエルの王はヨシャファトに、「わたしは変装して戦いに行きますが、あなたは御自分の服を着ていてください」と言い、イスラエルの王は変装して戦いに行った。

22:31 アラムの王は配下の戦車隊の長三十二人に、「兵士や将軍には目もくれず、ただイスラエルの王をねらって戦え」と命じていた。

22:32 戦車隊の長たちはヨシャファトを見たとき、「これこそイスラエルの王にちがいない」と言い、転じて彼に攻めかかろうとした。ヨシャファトは助けを求めて叫んだ。

22:33 そこで戦車隊の長たちは、彼がイスラエルの王ではないと知り、追うのをやめて引き返した。

22:34 ところが一人の兵が何気なく弓を引き、イスラエル王の鎧の胸当てと草摺りの間を射貫いた。王は御者に言った。「手綱を返して敵陣から脱出させてくれ。傷を負ってしまった。」

22:35 その日、戦いがますます激しくなったため、王はアラム軍を前にして戦車の中で支えられていたが、夕方になって息絶えた。傷口から血が戦車の床に流れ出ていた。

22:36 日の沈むころ、「おのおの自分の町、自分の国へ帰れ」という叫びが陣営の中を行き巡った。

22:37 王は死んでサマリアに運ばれた。人々はこの王をサマリアに葬った。

22:38 サマリアの池で戦車を洗うと、主が告げられた言葉のとおり、犬の群れが彼の血をなめ、遊女たちがそこで身を洗った。

22:39 アハブの他の事績、彼の行ったすべての事、特に彼の建てた象牙の家、彼の建てたすべての町々については、『イスラエルの王の歴代誌』に記されている。

22:40 アハブは先祖と共に眠りにつき、その息子アハズヤがアハブに代わって王となった。

◆ユダの王ヨシャファト

22:41 アサの子ヨシャファトは、イスラエルの王アハブの治世第四年にユダの王となった。

22:42 ヨシャファトは三十五歳で王となり、エルサレムで二十五年間王位にあった。その母は名をアズバと言い、シルヒの娘であった。

22:43 彼は父アサの道をそのまま歩み、それを離れず、主の目にかなう正しいことを行った。

22:44 しかし、聖なる高台は取り除かなかった。民は依然として聖なる高台でいけにえをささげ、香をたいていた。

22:45 ヨシャファトはイスラエルの王との間に平和を維持した。

22:46 ヨシャファトの他の事績、彼のあげた功績、また戦いについては、『ユダの王の歴代誌』に記されている。

22:47 彼は父アサの時代に残っていた神殿男娼の残りをこの国から除き去った。

22:48 エドムに王はなく、王の立てた役人がいた。

22:49 ヨシャファトはタルシシュの船を数艘造り、金を求めてオフィルに行こうとしたが、船団はエツヨン・ゲベルで難破し、行くことができなかった。

22:50 そのとき、アハブの子アハズヤがヨシャファトに、「わたしの家臣たちをあなたの家臣たちと共に船に乗り込ませればよい」と言ったが、ヨシャファトはそれを望まなかった。

22:51 ヨシャファトは先祖と共に眠りにつき、先祖と共に父ダビデの町に葬られた。その子ヨラムがヨシャファトに代わって王となった。

◆イスラエルの王アハズヤ

22:52 アハブの子アハズヤは、ユダの王ヨシャファトの治世第十七年にサマリアでイスラエルの王となった。彼は二年間イスラエルの王位にあった。

22:53 彼は主の目に悪とされることを行い、父の道と母の道、およびイスラエルに罪を犯させたネバトの子ヤロブアムの道を歩んだ。

22:54 彼はバアルに仕え、その前にひれ伏し、父と全く同じように行って、イスラエルの神、主の怒りを招いた。

ＴＥＶ Ⅰ列 22:1-54

22:1 There was peace between Israel and Syria for the next two years,

22:2 but in the third year King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to see King Ahab of Israel.

22:3 Ahab asked his officials, "Why is it that we have not done anything to get back Ramoth in Gilead from the king of Syria? It belongs to us!"

22:4 And Ahab asked Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to attack Ramoth?" /"I am ready when you are," Jehoshaphat answered, "and so are my soldiers and my cavalry.

22:5 But first let's consult the Lord."

22:6 So Ahab called in the prophets, about four hundred of them, and asked them, "Should I go and attack Ramoth, or not?" /"Attack it," they answered. "The Lord will give you victory."

22:7 But Jehoshaphat asked, "Isn't there another prophet through whom we can consult the Lord?"

22:8 Ahab answered, "There is one more, Micaiah son of Imlah. But I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me; it's always something bad." /"You shouldn't say that!" Jehoshaphat replied.

22:9 Then Ahab called in a court official and told him to go and get Micaiah at once.

22:10 The two kings, dressed in their royal robes, were sitting on their thrones at the threshing place just outside the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets were prophesying in front of them.

22:11 One of them, Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, made iron horns and said to Ahab, "This is what the Lord says: "With these you will fight the Syrians and totally defeat them."'

22:12 All the other prophets said the same thing. "March against Ramoth and you will win," they said. "The Lord will give you victory."

22:13 Meanwhile, the official who had gone to get Micaiah said to him, "All the other prophets have prophesied success for the king, and you had better do the same."

22:14 But Micaiah answered, "By the living Lord I promise that I will say what he tells me to!"

22:15 When he appeared before King Ahab, the king asked him, "Micaiah, should King Jehoshaphat and I go and attack Ramoth, or not?" /"Attack!" Micaiah answered. "Of course you'll win. The Lord will give you victory."

22:16 But Ahab replied, "When you speak to me in the name of the Lord, tell the truth! How many times do I have to tell you that?"

22:17 Micaiah answered, "I can see the army of Israel scattered over the hills like sheep without a shepherd. And the Lord said, "These men have no leader; let them go home in peace."'

22:18 Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he never prophesies anything good for me? It's always something bad!"

22:19 Micaiah went on: "Now listen to what the Lord says! I saw the Lord sitting on his throne in heaven, with all his angels standing beside him.

22:20 The Lord asked, "Who will deceive Ahab so that he will go and be killed at Ramoth?' Some of the angels said one thing, and others said something else,

22:21 until a spirit stepped forward, approached the Lord, and said, "I will deceive him.'

22:22 "How?' the Lord asked. The spirit replied, "I will go and make all of Ahab's prophets tell lies.' The Lord said, "Go and deceive him. You will succeed."'

22:23 And Micaiah concluded: "This is what has happened. The Lord has made these prophets of yours lie to you.But he himself has decreed that you will meet with disaster!.

22:24 Then the prophet Zedekiah went up to Micaiah, slapped his face, and asked, "Since when did the Lord's spirit leave me and speak to you?"

22:25 "You will find out when you go into some back room to hide," Micaiah replied.

22:26 Then King Ahab ordered one of his officers, "Arrest Micaiah and take him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Prince Joash.

22:27 Tell them to throw him in prison and to put him on bread and water until I return safely."

22:28 "If you return safely," Micaiah exclaimed, "then the Lord has not spoken through me!" And he added, "Listen, everyone, to what I have said!"

22:29 Then King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to attack the city of Ramoth in Gilead.

22:30 Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "As we go into battle, I will disguise myself, but you wear your royal garments." So the king of Israel went into battle in disguise.

22:31 The king of Syria had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders to attack no one else except the king of Israel.

22:32 So when they saw King Jehoshaphat, they all thought that he was the king of Israel, and they turned to attack him. But when he cried out,

22:33 they realized that he was not the king of Israel, and they stopped their attack.

22:34 By chance, however, a Syrian soldier shot an arrow which struck King Ahab between the joints of his armor. "I'm wounded!" he cried out to his chariot driver. "Turn around and pull out of the battle!"

22:35 While the battle raged on, King Ahab remained propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians. The blood from his wound ran down and covered the bottom of the chariot, and at evening he died.

22:36 Near sunset the order went out through the Israelite ranks: "Each of you go back to your own country and city!"

22:37 So died King Ahab. His body was taken to Samaria and buried.

22:38 His chariot was cleaned up at the pool of Samaria, where dogs licked up his blood and prostitutes washed themselves, as the Lord had said would happen.

22:39 Everything else that King Ahab did, including an account of his palace decorated with ivory and of all the cities he built, is recorded in The History of the Kings of Israel.

22:40 At his death his son Ahaziah succeeded him as king.

22:41 In the fourth year of the reign of King Ahab of Israel, Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah

22:42 at the age of thirty-five, and he ruled in Jerusalem for twenty-five years. His mother was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.

22:43 Like his father Asa before him, he did what was right in the sight of the Lord; but the places of worship were not destroyed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

22:44 Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

22:45 Everything else that Jehoshaphat did, all his bravery and his battles, are recorded in The History of the Kings of Judah.

22:46 He got rid of all the male and female prostitutes serving at the pagan altars who were still left from the days of his father Asa.

22:47 The land of Edom had no king; it was ruled by a deputy appointed by the king of Judah.

22:48 King Jehoshaphat had ocean-going ships built to sail to the land of Ophir for gold; but they were wrecked at Eziongeber and never sailed.

22:49 Then King Ahaziah of Israel offered to let his men sail with Jehoshaphat's men, but Jehoshaphat refused the offer.

22:50 Jehoshaphat died and was buried in the royal tombs in David's City, and his son Jehoram succeeded him as king.

22:51 In the seventeenth year of the reign of King Jehoshaphat of Judah, Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel, and he ruled in Samaria for two years.

22:52 He sinned against the Lord, following the wicked example of his father Ahab, his mother Jezebel, and King Jeroboam, who had led Israel into sin.

22:53 He worshiped and served Baal, and like his father before him, he aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel.
