5:4 しかし、兄弟たち、あなたがたは暗闇の中にいるのではありません。ですから、主の日が、盗人のように突然あなたがたを襲うことはないのです。

5:5 あなたがたはすべて光の子、昼の子だからです。わたしたちは、夜にも暗闇にも属していません。

5:6 従って、ほかの人々のように眠っていないで、目を覚まし、身を慎んでいましょう。

5:7 眠る者は夜眠り、酒に酔う者は夜酔います。

5:8 しかし、わたしたちは昼に属していますから、信仰と愛を胸当てとして着け、救いの希望を兜としてかぶり、身を慎んでいましょう。

5:9 神は、わたしたちを怒りに定められたのではなく、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストによる救いにあずからせるように定められたのです。

5:10 主は、わたしたちのために死なれましたが、それは、わたしたちが、目覚めていても眠っていても、主と共に生きるようになるためです。

5:11 ですから、あなたがたは、現にそうしているように、励まし合い、お互いの向上に心がけなさい。

ＴＥＶ Ⅰテサ5:4-11

5:4 But you, friends, are not in the darkness, and the Day should not take you by surprise like a thief.

5:5 All of you are people who belong to the light, who belong to the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.

5:6 So then, we should not be sleeping like the others; we should be awake and sober.

5:7 It is at night when people sleep; it is at night when they get drunk.

5:8 But we belong to the day, and we should be sober. We must wear faith and love as a breastplate, and our hope of salvation as a helmet.

5:9 God did not choose us to suffer his anger, but to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

5:10 who died for us in order that we might live together with him, whether we are alive or dead when he comes.

5:11 And so encourage one another and help one another, just as you are now doing.
