11:1 アハズヤの母アタルヤは息子が死んだのを見て、直ちに王族をすべて滅ぼそうとした。

11:2 しかし、ヨラム王の娘で、アハズヤの姉妹であるヨシェバが、アハズヤの子ヨアシュを抱き、殺されようとしている王子たちの中からひそかに連れ出し、乳母と共に寝具の部屋に入れておいた。人々はヨアシュをアタルヤからかくまい、彼は殺されずに済んだ。

11:3 こうして、アタルヤが国を支配していた六年の間、ヨアシュは乳母と共に主の神殿に隠れていた。

11:4 七年目に、ヨヤダは人を遣わして、カリ人と近衛兵からなる百人隊の長たちを神殿にいる自分のところに連れて来させ、彼らと契約を結んだ。彼は主の神殿の中で彼らに誓いを立てさせ、王子を見せて、

11:5 こう命じた。「あなたたちがなすべきことはこれである。あなたたちのうち、安息日が出番に当たる者の三分の一は王宮の警備に就き、

11:6 ほかの三分の一はスルの門に詰め、残る三分の一は近衛兵の背後の門に詰め、こうしてあなたたちは交代で王宮の警備に当たれ。

11:7 安息日が非番に当たるほかの二組は主の神殿で王のそばにいて警備に当たれ。

11:8 おのおの武器を手にして、王の周囲を固めなければならない。隊列を侵す者は殺されなければならない。王が出るときも、入るときも、王と行動を共にせよ。」

11:9 百人隊の長たちは、すべて祭司ヨヤダが命じたとおり行い、おのおの安息日が出番に当たる部下と非番に当たる部下を引き連れ、祭司ヨヤダのもとに来た。

11:10 祭司は主の神殿に納められているダビデ王の槍と小盾を百人隊の長たちに渡した。

11:11 近衛兵たちはおのおの武器を手にして、祭壇と神殿を中心に神殿の南の端から北の端まで王の周囲を固めた。

11:12 そこでヨヤダが王子を連れて現れ、彼に冠をかぶらせ、掟の書を渡した。人々はこの王子を王とし、油を注ぎ、拍手して、「王万歳」と叫んだ。

11:13 アタルヤは近衛兵と民の声を聞き、主の神殿の民のところに行った。

11:14 彼女が見ると、慣例どおり柱の傍らに王が立ち、その傍らには将軍たちと吹奏隊が立ち並び、また国の民は皆喜び祝い、ラッパを吹き鳴らしていた。アタルヤは衣を裂いて、「謀反、謀反」と叫んだ。

11:15 祭司ヨヤダは、軍を指揮する百人隊の長たちに、「彼女を隊列の間から外に出せ。彼女について行こうとする者は剣にかけて殺せ」と命じた。祭司が、「彼女を主の神殿で殺してはならない」と言ったからである。

11:16 彼らはアタルヤを捕らえ、馬の出入り口を通って王宮に連れて行った。彼女はそこで殺された。

11:17 ヨヤダは、主と王と民の間に、主の民となる契約を結び、王と民の間でも契約を結んだ。

11:18 国の民は皆、バアルの神殿に行き、それを祭壇と共に破壊し、像を徹底的に打ち砕き、バアルの祭司マタンを祭壇の前で殺した。祭司ヨヤダは主の神殿の監督を定め、

11:19 更に百人隊の長、カリ人、近衛兵および国の民全員を率いて、王を主の神殿から連れ下り、近衛兵の門を通って王宮に導き、王座につけた。

11:20 こうして、国の民は皆喜び祝った。アタルヤが王宮で剣にかけられて殺された後、町は平穏であった。

新共同 Ⅱ列 12:1-22

12:1 ヨアシュは王位についたとき、七歳であった。

12:2 イエフの治世第七年にヨアシュは王となり、四十年間エルサレムで王位にあった。その母は名をツィブヤといい、ベエル・シェバの出身であった。

12:3 ヨアシュは、祭司ヨヤダの教えを受けて、その生涯を通じて主の目にかなう正しいことを行った。

12:4 ただ聖なる高台は取り除かれず、民は依然として聖なる高台でいけにえを屠り、香をたいた。

12:5 ヨアシュは祭司たちに言った。「主の神殿にもたらされるすべての聖なる献金、すなわち、各人がその割り当てに従って課された献金、主の神殿に自発的にもたらされるすべての献金は、

12:6 祭司たちがおのおの自分の担当の者から受け取り、神殿のどこかに破損が生じたときには、それを用いてその破損を修理しなければならない。」

12:7 だが、ヨアシュ王の治世第二十三年になっても、なお祭司たちは神殿の破損を修理しなかったので、

12:8 ヨアシュ王は祭司ヨヤダおよびほかの祭司たちを呼んで言った。「なぜ神殿の破損を修理しないのか。以後あなたたちはあなたたちの担当の者から献金を受け取ってはならない。それは神殿の破損を修理するために使われるべきものだからだ。」

12:9 祭司たちは民から献金を受け取らず、従って神殿の破損を修理する責任を負わないことに同意した。

12:10 祭司ヨヤダは一つの箱を持って来て、その蓋に穴をあけ、主の神殿の入り口の右側、祭壇の傍らにそれを置いた。入り口を守る祭司たちは、主の神殿にもたらされるすべての献金をそこに入れた。

12:11 箱の中に献金がたまったのが認められると、王の書記官と大祭司が上って来て、主の神殿にあるその献金を袋に入れて数えた。

12:12 こうして確かめられた献金は、主の神殿の役人である工事担当者に渡され、主の神殿で働く大工、建築労働者、

12:13 石工、採石労働者たちに支払われ、また神殿の破損を修理するための木材や切り石の買い入れに用いられた。すなわち、それは神殿を修理するためのあらゆる出費に当てられた。

12:14 しかし、神殿用の銀の皿、芯切り鋏、鉢、ラッパなど、金の器と銀の器はいずれも、この神殿への献金では製作されなかった。

12:15 その献金は工事担当者に渡され、主の神殿の修理のために用いられた。

12:16 工事担当者に与えるように献金を渡された人々は忠実に仕事をする者であったので、会計監査を受けることはなかった。

12:17 賠償の献げ物のための献金、贖罪の献げ物のための献金は、主の神殿に納入されず、祭司たちのものとなった。

12:18 そのころ、アラムの王ハザエルが上って来てガトを攻略し、更にエルサレムに向かって攻め上って来た。

12:19 ユダの王ヨアシュは、先祖であるユダの王ヨシャファト、ヨラム、アハズヤが聖別したすべての聖なる物、自分自身が聖別した物、および主の神殿の宝物庫と王宮にあるすべての金を取り出し、アラムの王ハザエルに送ったので、ハザエルはエルサレムを離れて行った。

12:20 ヨアシュの他の事績、彼の行ったすべての事は、『ユダの王の歴代誌』に記されている。

12:21 その家臣たちは立ち上がって謀反を起こし、シラに下って行くヨアシュをベト・ミロで打ち殺した。

12:22 彼を殺したのは、家臣のシムアトの子ヨザバドとショメルの子ヨザバドであった。彼は死んで、ダビデの町に先祖と共に葬られた。その子アマツヤがヨアシュに代わって王となった。

ＴＥＶ Ⅱ列 11:1-21

11:1 As soon as King Ahaziah's mother Athaliah learned of her son's murder, she gave orders for all the members of the royal family to be killed.

11:2 Only Ahaziah's son Joash escaped. He was about to be killed with the others, but was rescued by his aunt Jehosheba, who was King Jehoram's daughter and Ahaziah's half sister. She took him and his nurse into a bedroom in the Temple and hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not killed.

11:3 For six years Jehosheba took care of the boy and kept him hidden in the Temple, while Athaliah ruled as queen.

11:4 But in the seventh year Jehoiada the priest sent for the officers in charge of the royal bodyguard and of the palace guards, and told them to come to the Temple, where he made them agree under oath to what he planned to do. He showed them King Ahaziah's son Joash

11:5 and gave them the following orders: "When you come on duty on the Sabbath, one third of you are to guard the palace;

11:6 another third are to stand guard at the Sur Gate, and the other third are to stand guard at the gate behind the other guards.

11:7 The two groups that go off duty on the Sabbath are to stand guard at the Temple to protect the king.

11:8 You are to guard King Joash with drawn swords and stay with him wherever he goes. Anyone who comes near you is to be killed."

11:9 The officers obeyed Jehoiada's instructions and brought their men to him-those going off duty on the Sabbath and those going on duty.

11:10 He gave the officers the spears and shields that had belonged to King David and had been kept in the Temple,

11:11 and he stationed the men with drawn swords all around the front of the Temple, to protect the king.

11:12 Then Jehoiada led Joash out, placed the crown on his head, and gave him a copy of the laws governing kingship. Then Joash was anointed and proclaimed king. The people clapped their hands and shouted, "Long live the king!"

11:13 Queen Athaliah heard the noise being made by the guards and the people, so she hurried to the Temple, where the crowd had gathered.

11:14 There she saw the new king standing by the column at the entrance of the Temple, as was the custom. He was surrounded by the officers and the trumpeters, and the people were all shouting joyfully and blowing trumpets. Athaliah tore her clothes in distress and shouted, "Treason! Treason!"

11:15 Jehoiada did not want Athaliah killed in the Temple area, so he ordered the army officers: "Take her out between the rows of guards, and kill anyone who tries to rescue her."

11:16 They seized her, took her to the palace, and there at the Horse Gate they killed her.

11:17 The priest Jehoiada had King Joash and the people make a covenant with the Lord that they would be the Lord's people; he also made a covenant between the king and the people.

11:18 Then the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down; they smashed the altars and the idols, and killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, in front of the altars. /Jehoiada put guards on duty at the Temple,

11:19 and then he, the officers, the royal bodyguard, and the palace guards escorted the king from the Temple to the palace, followed by all the people. Joash entered by the Guard Gate and took his place on the throne.

11:20 All the people were filled with happiness, and the city was quiet, now that Athaliah had been killed in the palace.

11:21 Joash became king of Judah at the age of seven.

ＴＥＶ Ⅱ列 12:1-22

12:1 In the seventh year of the reign of King Jehu of Israel, Joash became king of Judah, and he ruled in Jerusalem for forty years. His mother was Zibiah from the city of Beersheba.

12:2 Throughout his life he did what pleased the Lord, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

12:3 However, the pagan places of worship were not destroyed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

12:4 Joash called the priests and ordered them to save up the money paid in connection with the sacrifices in the Temple, both the dues paid for the regular sacrifices and the money given as freewill gifts.

12:5 Each priest was to be responsible for the money brought by those he served, and the money was to be used to repair the Temple, as needed.

12:6 But by the twenty-third year of Joash's reign the priests still had not made any repairs in the Temple.

12:7 So he called in Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them, "Why aren't you repairing the Temple? From now on you are not to keep the money you receive; you must hand it over, so that the repairs can be made."

12:8 The priests agreed to this and also agreed not to make the repairs in the Temple.

12:9 Then Jehoiada took a box, made a hole in the lid, and placed the box by the altar, on the right side as one enters the Temple. The priests on duty at the entrance put in the box all the money given by the worshipers.

12:10 Whenever there was a large amount of money in the box, the royal secretary and the High Priest would come, melt down the silver, and weigh it.

12:11 After recording the exact amount, they would hand the silver over to the men in charge of the work in the Temple, and these would pay the carpenters, the builders,

12:12 the masons, and the stone cutters, buy the timber and the stones used in the repairs, and pay all other necessary expenses.

12:13 None of the money, however, was used to pay for making silver cups, bowls, trumpets, or tools for tending the lamps, or any other article of silver or of gold.

12:14 It was all used to pay the workers and to buy the materials used in the repairs.

12:15 The men in charge of the work were thoroughly honest, so there was no need to require them to account for the funds.

12:16 The money given for the repayment offerings and for the offerings for sin was not deposited in the box; it belonged to the priests.

12:17 At that time King Hazael of Syria attacked the city of Gath and conquered it; then he decided to attack Jerusalem.

12:18 King Joash of Judah took all the offerings that his predecessors Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah had dedicated to the Lord, added to them his own offerings and all the gold in the treasuries of the Temple and the palace, and sent them all as a gift to King Hazael, who then led his army away from Jerusalem.

12:19 Everything else that King Joash did is recorded in The History of the Kings of Judah.

12:20 -21 King Joash's officials plotted against him, and two of them, Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer, killed him at the house built on the land that was filled in on the east side of Jerusalem, on the road that goes down to Silla. Joash was buried in the royal tombs in David's City, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
