4:1 Therefore, when the
Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples
than John
4:2 (though Jesus Himself
did not baptize, but His disciples),
4:3 He left Judea and
departed again to Galilee.
4:4 But He needed to go
through Samaria.
4:5 So He came to a city
of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to
his son Joseph.
4:6 Now Jacob's well was
there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well.
It was about the sixth hour.
4:7 A woman of Samaria
came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink."
4:8 For His disciples had
gone away into the city to buy food.
4:9 Then the woman of
Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from
me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
4:10 Jesus answered and
said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you,
'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living
water."
TEV ヨハ 4:1-10
4:1 The Pharisees heard
that Jesus was winning and baptizing more disciples than John.
4:2 (Actually, Jesus
himself did not baptize anyone; only his disciples did.)
4:3 So when Jesus heard
what was being said, he left Judea and went back to Galilee;
4:4 on his way there he
had to go through Samaria.
4:5 In Samaria he came to
a town named Sychar, which was not far from the field that Jacob had given to
his son Joseph.
4:6 Jacob's well was
there, and Jesus, tired out by the trip, sat down by the well. It was about
noon.
4:7 A Samaritan woman
came to draw some water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink of
water."
4:8 (His disciples had
gone into town to buy food.)
4:9 The woman answered,
"You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan-so how can you ask me for a
drink?" (Jews will not use the same cups and bowls that Samaritans use.)
4:10 Jesus answered,
"If you only knew what God gives and who it is that is asking you for a
drink, you would ask him, and he would give you life-giving water."
