5:31 「もし、わたしが自分自身について証しをするなら、その証しは真実ではない。

5:32 わたしについて証しをなさる方は別におられる。そして、その方がわたしについてなさる証しは真実であることを、わたしは知っている。

5:33 あなたたちはヨハネのもとへ人を送ったが、彼は真理について証しをした。

5:34 わたしは、人間による証しは受けない。しかし、あなたたちが救われるために、これらのことを言っておく。

5:35 ヨハネは、燃えて輝くともし火であった。あなたたちは、しばらくの間その光のもとで喜び楽しもうとした。

5:36 しかし、わたしにはヨハネの証しにまさる証しがある。父がわたしに成し遂げるようにお与えになった業、つまり、わたしが行っている業そのものが、父がわたしをお遣わしになったことを証ししている。

5:37 また、わたしをお遣わしになった父が、わたしについて証しをしてくださる。あなたたちは、まだ父のお声を聞いたこともなければ、お姿を見たこともない。

5:38 また、あなたたちは、自分の内に父のお言葉をとどめていない。父がお遣わしになった者を、あなたたちは信じないからである。

5:39 あなたたちは聖書の中に永遠の命があると考えて、聖書を研究している。ところが、聖書はわたしについて証しをするものだ。

5:40 それなのに、あなたたちは、命を得るためにわたしのところへ来ようとしない。

5:31 "If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.

5:32 "There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.

5:33 "You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

5:34 "Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.

5:35 "He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.

5:36 "But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish-the very works that I do-bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.

5:37 "And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.

5:38 "But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.

5:39 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

5:40 "But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

5:31 "If I testify on my own behalf, what I say is not to be accepted as real proof.

5:32 But there is someone else who testifies on my behalf, and I know that what he says about me is true.

5:33 John is the one to whom you sent your messengers, and he spoke on behalf of the truth.

5:34 It is not that I must have a human witness; I say this only in order that you may be saved.

5:35 John was like a lamp, burning and shining, and you were willing for a while to enjoy his light.

5:36 But I have a witness on my behalf which is even greater than the witness that John gave: what I do, that is, the deeds my Father gave me to do, these speak on my behalf and show that the Father has sent me.

5:37 And the Father, who sent me, also testifies on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his face,

5:38 and you do not keep his message in your hearts, for you do not believe in the one whom he sent.

5:39 You study the Scriptures, because you think that in them you will find eternal life. And these very Scriptures speak about me!

5:40 Yet you are not willing to come to me in order to have life.
