10:16 しかし、すべての人が福音に従ったのではありません。イザヤは、「主よ、だれがわたしたちから聞いたことを信じましたか」と言っています。

10:17 実に、信仰は聞くことにより、しかも、キリストの言葉を聞くことによって始まるのです。

10:18 それでは、尋ねよう。彼らは聞いたことがなかったのだろうか。もちろん聞いたのです。「その声は全地に響き渡り、／その言葉は世界の果てにまで及ぶ」のです。

10:19 それでは、尋ねよう。イスラエルは分からなかったのだろうか。このことについては、まずモーセが、／「わたしは、わたしの民でない者のことで／あなたがたにねたみを起こさせ、／愚かな民のことであなたがたを怒らせよう」と言っています。

10:20 イザヤも大胆に、／「わたしは、／わたしを探さなかった者たちに見いだされ、／わたしを尋ねなかった者たちに自分を現した」と言っています。

10:21 しかし、イスラエルについては、「わたしは、不従順で反抗する民に、一日中手を差し伸べた」と言っています。

10:16 But not all have accepted the Good News. Isaiah himself said, "Lord, who believed our message?"

10:17 So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through preaching Christ.

10:18 But I ask: Is it true that they did not hear the message? Of course they did-for as the scripture says: /"The sound of their voice went out to all the world; /their words reached the ends of the earth."

10:19 Again I ask: Did the people of Israel not understand? Moses himself is the first one to answer: /"I will use a so-called nation /to make my people jealous; /and by means of a nation of fools /I will make my people angry."

10:20 And Isaiah is even bolder when he says, /"I was found by those who were not looking for me; /I appeared to those who were not asking for me."

10:21 But concerning Israel he says, "All day long I held out my hands to welcome a disobedient and rebellious people."
