新共同 Ⅰ列 19:1-18

19:1 アハブは、エリヤの行ったすべての事、預言者を剣で皆殺しにした次第をすべてイゼベルに告げた。

19:2 イゼベルは、エリヤに使者を送ってこう言わせた。「わたしが明日のこの時刻までに、あなたの命をあの預言者たちの一人の命のようにしていなければ、神々が幾重にもわたしを罰してくださるように。」

19:3 それを聞いたエリヤは恐れ、直ちに逃げた。ユダのベエル・シェバに来て、自分の従者をそこに残し、

19:4 彼自身は荒れ野に入り、更に一日の道のりを歩き続けた。彼は一本のえにしだの木の下に来て座り、自分の命が絶えるのを願って言った。「主よ、もう十分です。わたしの命を取ってください。わたしは先祖にまさる者ではありません。」

19:5 彼はえにしだの木の下で横になって眠ってしまった。御使いが彼に触れて言った。「起きて食べよ。」

19:6 見ると、枕もとに焼き石で焼いたパン菓子と水の入った瓶があったので、エリヤはそのパン菓子を食べ、水を飲んで、また横になった。

19:7 主の御使いはもう一度戻って来てエリヤに触れ、「起きて食べよ。この旅は長く、あなたには耐え難いからだ」と言った。

19:8 エリヤは起きて食べ、飲んだ。その食べ物に力づけられた彼は、四十日四十夜歩き続け、ついに神の山ホレブに着いた。

19:9 エリヤはそこにあった洞穴に入り、夜を過ごした。見よ、そのとき、主の言葉があった。「エリヤよ、ここで何をしているのか。」

19:10 エリヤは答えた。「わたしは万軍の神、主に情熱を傾けて仕えてきました。ところが、イスラエルの人々はあなたとの契約を捨て、祭壇を破壊し、預言者たちを剣にかけて殺したのです。わたし一人だけが残り、彼らはこのわたしの命をも奪おうとねらっています。」

19:11 主は、「そこを出て、山の中で主の前に立ちなさい」と言われた。見よ、そのとき主が通り過ぎて行かれた。主の御前には非常に激しい風が起こり、山を裂き、岩を砕いた。しかし、風の中に主はおられなかった。風の後に地震が起こった。しかし、地震の中にも主はおられなかった。

19:12 地震の後に火が起こった。しかし、火の中にも主はおられなかった。火の後に、静かにささやく声が聞こえた。

19:13 それを聞くと、エリヤは外套で顔を覆い、出て来て、洞穴の入り口に立った。そのとき、声はエリヤにこう告げた。「エリヤよ、ここで何をしているのか。」

19:14 エリヤは答えた。「わたしは万軍の神、主に情熱を傾けて仕えてきました。ところが、イスラエルの人々はあなたとの契約を捨て、祭壇を破壊し、預言者たちを剣にかけて殺したのです。わたし一人だけが残り、彼らはこのわたしの命をも奪おうとねらっています。」

19:15 主はエリヤに言われた。「行け、あなたの来た道を引き返し、ダマスコの荒れ野に向かえ。そこに着いたなら、ハザエルに油を注いで彼をアラムの王とせよ。

19:16 ニムシの子イエフにも油を注いでイスラエルの王とせよ。またアベル・メホラのシャファトの子エリシャにも油を注ぎ、あなたに代わる預言者とせよ。

19:17 ハザエルの剣を逃れた者をイエフが殺し、イエフの剣を逃れた者をエリシャが殺すであろう。

19:18 しかし、わたしはイスラエルに七千人を残す。これは皆、バアルにひざまずかず、これに口づけしなかった者である。」

ＴＥＶ Ⅰ列 19:1-18

19:1 King Ahab told his wife Jezebel everything that Elijah had done and how he had put all the prophets of Baal to death.

19:2 She sent a message to Elijah: "May the gods strike me dead if by this time tomorrow I don't do the same thing to you that you did to the prophets."

19:3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life; he took his servant and went to Beersheba in Judah. /Leaving the servant there,

19:4 Elijah walked a whole day into the wilderness. He stopped and sat down in the shade of a tree and wished he would die. "It's too much, Lord," he prayed. "Take away my life; I might as well be dead!"

19:5 He lay down under the tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said, "Wake up and eat."

19:6 He looked around and saw a loaf of bread and a jar of water near his head. He ate and drank, and lay down again.

19:7 The Lord's angel returned and woke him up a second time, saying, "Get up and eat, or the trip will be too much for you."

19:8 Elijah got up, ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to walk forty days to Sinai, the holy mountain.

19:9 There he went into a cave to spend the night. /Suddenly the Lord spoke to him, "Elijah, what are you doing here?"

19:10 He answered, "Lord God Almighty, I have always served you-you alone. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed all your prophets. I am the only one left-and they are trying to kill me!"

19:11 "Go out and stand before me on top of the mountain," the Lord said to him. Then the Lord passed by and sent a furious wind that split the hills and shattered the rocks-but the Lord was not in the wind. The wind stopped blowing, and then there was an earthquake-but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

19:12 After the earthquake there was a fire-but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the soft whisper of a voice.

19:13 When Elijah heard it, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, "Elijah, what are you doing here?"

19:14 He answered, "Lord God Almighty, I have always served you-you alone. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed all your prophets. I am the only one left-and they are trying to kill me."

19:15 The Lord said, "Return to the wilderness near Damascus, then enter the city and anoint Hazael as king of Syria;

19:16 anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.

19:17 Anyone who escapes being put to death by Hazael will be killed by Jehu, and anyone who escapes Jehu will be killed by Elisha.

19:18 Yet I will leave seven thousand people alive in Israel-all those who are loyal to me and have not bowed to Baal or kissed his idol."
