9:17 わたしは両手に持っていた二枚の板を投げつけ、あなたたちの目の前で砕いた。

9:18 主の目に悪と見なされることを行って罪を犯し、主を憤らせた、あなたたちのすべての罪のゆえに、わたしは前と同じように、四十日四十夜、パンも食べず水も飲まず主の前にひれ伏した。

9:19 わたしは、主が激しく怒りに燃え、あなたたちを滅ぼされるのではないかと恐れたが、主はこのときも、わたしに耳を傾けてくださった。

9:20 アロンに対しても、主は激しく怒って滅ぼそうとされたが、わたしはそのとき、アロンのためにも祈った。

9:21 また、あなたたちの罪、あなたたちが造った子牛を取り上げて火に投じ、粉々に砕いて塵とし、その塵を山から流れる川に投げ捨てた。

9:22 あなたたちはタブエラでも、マサでも、キブロト・ハタアワでも主を怒らせた。

9:23 主がカデシュ・バルネアからあなたたちを遣わし、「上って行って、わたしが与える土地を取りなさい」と言われたときも、あなたたちの神、主の命令に背き、主を信頼せず、その声に聞き従わなかった。

9:24 主があなたたちをお選びになって以来、あなたたちは背き続けてきた。

9:25 わたしは、四十日四十夜、主の御前にひれ伏した。主があなたたちを滅ぼすと言われたからである。わたしはひれ伏して、

9:26 主に祈って言った。「主なる神よ。あなたが大いなる御業をもって救い出し、力強い御手をもってエジプトから導き出された、あなたの嗣業の民を滅ぼさないでください。

9:27 あなたの僕、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブを思い起こし、この民のかたくなさと逆らいと罪に御顔を向けないでください。

9:28 我々があなたに導かれて出て来た国の人々に、『主は約束された土地に彼らを入らせることができなかった。主は彼らを憎んで、荒れ野に導き出して殺してしまった』と言われないようにしてください。

9:29 彼らは、あなたが大いなる力と伸ばされた御腕をもって導き出されたあなたの嗣業の民です。」

9:17 So there in front of you I threw the stone tablets down and broke them to pieces.

9:18 Then once again I lay face downward in the Lord's presence for forty days and nights and did not eat or drink anything. I did this because you had sinned against the Lord and had made him angry.

9:19 I was afraid of the Lord's fierce anger, because he was furious enough to destroy you; but once again the Lord listened to me.

9:20 The Lord was also angry enough with Aaron to kill him, so I prayed for Aaron at the same time.

9:21 I took that sinful thing that you had made-that metal bull-calf-and threw it into the fire. Then I broke it in pieces, ground it to dust, and threw the dust into the stream that flowed down the mountain.

9:22 "You also made the Lord your God angry when you were at Taberah, Massah, and Kibroth Hattaavah.

9:23 And when he sent you from Kadesh Barnea with orders to go and take possession of the land that he was giving you, you rebelled against him; you did not trust him or obey him.

9:24 Ever since I have known you, you have rebelled against the Lord.

9:25 "So I lay face downward in the Lord's presence those forty days and nights, because I knew that he was determined to destroy you.

9:26 And I prayed, "Sovereign Lord, don't destroy your own people, the people you rescued and brought out of Egypt by your great strength and power.

9:27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and do not pay any attention to the stubbornness, wickedness, and sin of this people.

9:28 Otherwise, the Egyptians will say that you were unable to take your people into the land that you had promised them. They will say that you took your people out into the desert to kill them, because you hated them.

9:29 After all, these are the people whom you chose to be your own and whom you brought out of Egypt by your great power and might.'
