20:1 あなたが敵に向かって出陣するとき、馬と戦車、また味方より多数の軍勢を見ても恐れてはならない。あなたをエジプトの国から導き上られたあなたの神、主が共におられるからである。

20:2 いよいよ戦いの場に臨んだならば、祭司は進み出て、民に告げ、

20:3 次のように言わねばならない。「イスラエルよ、聞け。あなたたちは、今日、敵との戦いに臨む。心ひるむな。恐れるな。慌てるな。彼らの前にうろたえるな。

20:4 あなたたちの神、主が共に進み、敵と戦って勝利を賜るからである。」

20:5 役人たちは民に勧めなさい。「新しい家を建てて、まだ奉献式を済ませていない者はいないか。その人は家に帰りなさい。万一、戦死して、ほかの者が奉献式をするようなことにならないように。

20:6 ぶどう畑を作り、まだ最初の収穫をしていない者はいないか。その人は家に帰りなさい。万一、戦死して、ほかの者が最初の収穫をするようなことにならないように。

20:7 婚約しただけで、まだ結婚していない者はいないか。その人は家に帰りなさい。万一、戦死して、ほかの者が彼女と結婚するようなことにならないように。」

20:8 役人たちは更に民に勧めて言いなさい。「恐れて心ひるんでいる者はいないか。その人は家に帰りなさい。彼の心と同じように同胞の心が挫けるといけないから。」

20:9 役人たちが民への勧めを終えたならば、各部隊の長は民の指揮を取りなさい。

20:10 ある町を攻撃しようとして、そこに近づくならば、まず、降伏を勧告しなさい。

20:11 もしその町がそれを受諾し、城門を開くならば、その全住民を強制労働に服させ、あなたに仕えさせねばならない。

20:12 しかし、もしも降伏せず、抗戦するならば、町を包囲しなさい。

20:13 あなたの神、主はその町をあなたの手に渡されるから、あなたは男子をことごとく剣にかけて撃たねばならない。

20:14 ただし、女、子供、家畜、および町にあるものはすべてあなたの分捕り品として奪い取ることができる。あなたは、あなたの神、主が与えられた敵の分捕り品を自由に用いることができる。

20:15 このようになしうるのは、遠く離れた町々に対してであって、次に挙げる国々に属する町々に対してではない。

20:16 あなたの神、主が嗣業として与えられる諸国の民に属する町々で息のある者は、一人も生かしておいてはならない。

20:17 ヘト人、アモリ人、カナン人、ペリジ人、ヒビ人、エブス人は、あなたの神、主が命じられたように必ず滅ぼし尽くさねばならない。

20:18 それは、彼らがその神々に行ってきた、あらゆるいとうべき行為をあなたたちに教えてそれを行わせ、あなたたちがあなたたちの神、主に罪を犯すことのないためである。

20:19 あなたが町を攻略しようとして、長期にわたって包囲するとき、斧を振るってその町の木を切り尽くしてはならない。木の実は食糧になるから、それを切り倒してはならない。一体、野の木はあなたの前から城壁に囲まれた町に逃げ込む人間なのか。

20:20 ただ食用にならないことが分かっている木を切り尽くし、切った木を用いて塁を築き、あなたに抗戦する町を攻め落としなさい。

ＴＥＶ 申  20:1-20

20:1 "When you go out to fight against your enemies and you see chariots and horses and an army that outnumbers yours, do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who rescued you from Egypt, will be with you.

20:2 Before you start fighting, a priest is to come forward and say to the army,

20:3 "Men of Israel, listen! Today you are going into battle. Do not be afraid of your enemies or lose courage or panic.

20:4 The Lord your God is going with you, and he will give you victory.'

20:5 "Then the officers will address the men and say, "Is there any man here who has just built a house, but has not yet dedicated it? If so, he is to go home. Otherwise, if he is killed in battle, someone else will dedicate his house.

20:6 Is there any man here who has just planted a vineyard, but has not yet had the chance to harvest its grapes? If so, he is to go home. Otherwise, if he is killed in battle, someone else will enjoy the wine.

20:7 Is there anyone here who is engaged to be married? If so, he is to go home. Otherwise, if he is killed in battle, someone else will marry the woman he is engaged to.'

20:8 "The officers will also say to the men, "Is there any man here who has lost his nerve and is afraid? If so, he is to go home. Otherwise, he will destroy the morale of the others.'

20:9 When the officers have finished speaking to the army, leaders are to be chosen for each unit.

20:10 "When you go to attack a city, first give its people a chance to surrender.

20:11 If they open the gates and surrender, they are all to become your slaves and do forced labor for you.

20:12 But if the people of that city will not surrender, but choose to fight, surround it with your army.

20:13 Then, when the Lord your God lets you capture the city, kill every man in it.

20:14 You may, however, take for yourselves the women, the children, the livestock, and everything else in the city. You may use everything that belongs to your enemies. The Lord has given it to you.

20:15 That is how you are to deal with those cities that are far away from the land you will settle in.

20:16 "But when you capture cities in the land that the Lord your God is giving you, kill everyone.

20:17 Completely destroy all the people: the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as the Lord ordered you to do.

20:18 Kill them, so that they will not make you sin against the Lord by teaching you to do all the disgusting things that they do in the worship of their gods.

20:19 "When you are trying to capture a city, do not cut down its fruit trees, even though the siege lasts a long time. Eat the fruit, but do not destroy the trees; the trees are not your enemies.

20:20 You may cut down the other trees and use them in the siege mounds until the city is captured.
