2:16 さて、ヘロデは博士たちにだまされたと知って、非常に立腹した。そして人々をつかわし、博士たちから確かめた時に基いて、ベツレヘムとその附近の地方とにいる二歳以下の男の子を、ことごとく殺した。
2:17 こうして、預言者エレミヤによって言われたことが、成就したのである。
2:18 「叫び泣く大いなる悲しみの声が／ラマで聞えた。ラケルはその子らのためになげいた。子らがもはやいないので、慰められることさえ願わなかった」。
2:19 さて、ヘロデが死んだのち、見よ、主の使がエジプトにいるヨセフに夢で現れて言った、
2:20 「立って、幼な子とその母を連れて、イスラエルの地に行け。幼な子の命をねらっていた人々は、死んでしまった」。
2:21 そこでヨセフは立って、幼な子とその母とを連れて、イスラエルの地に帰った。
2:22 しかし、アケラオがその父ヘロデに代ってユダヤを治めていると聞いたので、そこへ行くことを恐れた。そして夢でみ告げを受けたので、ガリラヤの地方に退き、
2:23 ナザレという町に行って住んだ。これは預言者たちによって、「彼はナザレ人と呼ばれるであろう」と言われたことが、成就するためである。

2:22 しかし、アルケラオが父ヘロデの跡を継いでユダヤを支配していると聞き、そこに行くことを恐れた。ところが、夢でお告げがあったので、ガリラヤ地方に引きこもり、
2:23 ナザレという町に行って住んだ。「彼はナザレの人と呼ばれる」と、預言者たちを通して言われていたことが実現するためであった。

2:16 Then Herod, when he
saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent
forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all
its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had
determined from the wise men.
2:17 Then was fulfilled
what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
2:18 "A voice was
heard in Ramah,Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,Rachel weeping for her
children,Refusing to be comforted,Because they are no more."
2:19 But when Herod was dead,
behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
2:20 saying, "Arise,
take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those
who sought the young Child's life are dead."
2:21 Then he arose, took
the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.
2:22 But when he heard
that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was
afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into
the region of Galilee.
2:23 And he came and
dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by
the prophets, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

2:16 When Herod realized
that the visitors from the East had tricked him, he was furious. He gave orders
to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its neighborhood who were two years old
and younger-this was done in accordance with what he had learned from the
visitors about the time when the star had appeared.
2:17 In this way what the
prophet Jeremiah had said came true:
2:18 "A sound is
heard in Ramah, /the sound of bitter weeping. /Rachel is crying for her
children; /she refuses to be comforted, /for they are dead."
2:19 After Herod died, an
angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt
2:20 and said, "Get
up, take the child and his mother, and go back to the land of Israel, because
those who tried to kill the child are dead."
2:21 So Joseph got up,
took the child and his mother, and went back to Israel.
2:22 But when Joseph
heard that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, he was
afraid to go there. He was given more instructions in a dream, so he went to
the province of Galilee
2:23 and made his home in
a town named Nazareth. And so what the prophets had said came true: "He
will be called a Nazarene."
