21:23 イエスが宮にはいられたとき、祭司長たちや民の長老たちが、その教えておられる所にきて言った、「何の権威によって、これらの事をするのですか。だれが、そうする権威を授けたのですか」。
21:24 そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしも一つだけ尋ねよう。あなたがたがそれに答えてくれたなら、わたしも、何の権威によってこれらの事をするのか、あなたがたに言おう。

into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him
as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these
things? And who gave You this authority?"
21:24 But Jesus answered
and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I
likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things:
21:25 "The baptism
of John-where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they reasoned
among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us,
'Why then did you not believe him?'
21:26 "But if we
say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet."
21:27 So they answered
Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither
will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

the Temple; and as he taught, the chief priests and the elders came to him and
asked, "What right do you have to do these things? Who gave you such
right?"
21:24 Jesus answered
them, "I will ask you just one question, and if you give me an answer, I
will tell you what right I have to do these things.
21:25 Where did John's
right to baptize come from: was it from God or from human beings?" /They
started to argue among themselves, "What shall we say? If we answer,
"From God,' he will say to us, "Why, then, did you not believe John?'
21:26 But if we say,
"From human beings,' we are afraid of what the people might do, because
they are all convinced that John was a prophet."
21:27 So they answered
Jesus, "We don't know." /And he said to them, "Neither will I
tell you, then, by what right I do these things.
