35:1 神はヤコブに言われた。「さあ、ベテルに上り、そこに住みなさい。そしてその地に、あなたが兄エサウを避けて逃げて行ったとき、あなたに現れた神のための祭壇を造りなさい。」

35:2 ヤコブは、家族の者や一緒にいるすべての人々に言った。「お前たちが身に着けている外国の神々を取り去り、身を清めて衣服を着替えなさい。

35:3 さあ、これからベテルに上ろう。わたしはその地に、苦難の時わたしに答え、旅の間わたしと共にいてくださった神のために祭壇を造る。」

35:4 人々は、持っていた外国のすべての神々と、着けていた耳飾りをヤコブに渡したので、ヤコブはそれらをシケムの近くにある樫の木の下に埋めた。

35:5 こうして一同は出発したが、神が周囲の町々を恐れさせたので、ヤコブの息子たちを追跡する者はなかった。

35:6 ヤコブはやがて、一族の者すべてと共に、カナン地方のルズ、すなわちベテルに着き、

35:7 そこに祭壇を築いて、その場所をエル・ベテルと名付けた。兄を避けて逃げて行ったとき、神がそこでヤコブに現れたからである。

35:8 リベカの乳母デボラが死に、ベテルの下手にある樫の木の下に葬られた。そこで、その名はアロン・バクト（嘆きの樫の木）と呼ばれるようになった。

35:9 ヤコブがパダン・アラムから帰って来たとき、神は再びヤコブに現れて彼を祝福された。

35:10 神は彼に言われた。「あなたの名はヤコブである。しかし、あなたの名はもはやヤコブと呼ばれない。イスラエルがあなたの名となる。」神はこうして、彼をイスラエルと名付けられた。

35:11 神は、また彼に言われた。「わたしは全能の神である。産めよ、増えよ。あなたから／一つの国民、いや多くの国民の群れが起こり／あなたの腰から王たちが出る。

35:12 わたしは、アブラハムとイサクに与えた土地を／あなたに与える。また、あなたに続く子孫にこの土地を与える。」

35:13 神はヤコブと語られた場所を離れて昇って行かれた。

35:14 ヤコブは、神が自分と語られた場所に記念碑を立てた。それは石の柱で、彼はその上にぶどう酒を注ぎかけ、また油を注いだ。

35:15 そしてヤコブは、神が自分と語られた場所をベテルと名付けた。

◆ラケルの死

35:16 一同がベテルを出発し、エフラタまで行くにはまだかなりの道のりがあるときに、ラケルが産気づいたが、難産であった。

35:17 ラケルが産みの苦しみをしているとき、助産婦は彼女に、「心配ありません。今度も男の子ですよ」と言った。

35:18 ラケルが最後の息を引き取ろうとするとき、その子をベン・オニ（わたしの苦しみの子）と名付けたが、父はこれをベニヤミン（幸いの子）と呼んだ。

35:19 ラケルは死んで、エフラタ、すなわち今日のベツレヘムへ向かう道の傍らに葬られた。

35:20 ヤコブは、彼女の葬られた所に記念碑を立てた。それは、ラケルの葬りの碑として今でも残っている。

35:21 イスラエルは更に旅を続け、ミグダル・エデルを過ぎた所に天幕を張った。

35:22 イスラエルがそこに滞在していたとき、ルベンは父の側女ビルハのところへ入って寝た。このことはイスラエルの耳にも入った。

◆ヤコブの息子たち

35:22 ヤコブの息子は十二人であった。

35:23 レアの息子がヤコブの長男ルベン、それからシメオン、レビ、ユダ、イサカル、ゼブルン、

35:24 ラケルの息子がヨセフとベニヤミン、

35:25 ラケルの召し使いビルハの息子がダンとナフタリ、

35:26 レアの召し使いジルパの息子がガドとアシェルである。これらは、パダン・アラムで生まれたヤコブの息子たちである。

◆イサクの死

35:27 ヤコブは、キルヤト・アルバ、すなわちヘブロンのマムレにいる父イサクのところへ行った。そこは、イサクだけでなく、アブラハムも滞在していた所である。

35:28 イサクの生涯は百八十年であった。

35:29 イサクは息を引き取り、高齢のうちに満ち足りて死に、先祖の列に加えられた。息子のエサウとヤコブが彼を葬った。

ＴＥＶ 創  35:1-29

35:1 God said to Jacob, "Go to Bethel at once, and live there. Build an altar there to me, the God who appeared to you when you were running away from your brother Esau."

35:2 So Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that you have; purify yourselves and put on clean clothes.

35:3 We are going to leave here and go to Bethel, where I will build an altar to the God who helped me in the time of my trouble and who has been with me everywhere I have gone."

35:4 So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods that they had and also the earrings that they were wearing. He buried them beneath the oak tree near Shechem.

35:5 When Jacob and his sons started to leave, great fear fell on the people of the nearby towns, and they did not pursue them.

35:6 Jacob came with all his people to Luz, which is now known as Bethel, in the land of Canaan.

35:7 He built an altar there and named the place for the God of Bethel, because God had revealed himself to him there when he was running away from his brother.

35:8 Rebecca's nurse Deborah died and was buried beneath the oak south of Bethel. So it was named "Oak of Weeping."

35:9 When Jacob returned from Mesopotamia, God appeared to him again and blessed him.

35:10 God said to him, "Your name is Jacob, but from now on it will be Israel." So God named him Israel.

35:11 And God said to him, "I am Almighty God. Have many children. Nations will be descended from you, and you will be the ancestor of kings.

35:12 I will give you the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, and I will also give it to your descendants after you."

35:13 Then God left him.

35:14 There, where God had spoken to him, Jacob set up a memorial stone and consecrated it by pouring wine and olive oil on it.

35:15 He named the place Bethel.

35:16 Jacob and his family left Bethel, and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, the time came for Rachel to have her baby, and she was having difficult labor.

35:17 When her labor pains were at their worst, the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, Rachel; it's another boy."

35:18 But she was dying, and as she breathed her last, she named her son Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.

35:19 When Rachel died, she was buried beside the road to Ephrath, now known as Bethlehem.

35:20 Jacob set up a memorial stone there, and it still marks Rachel's grave to this day.

35:21 Jacob moved on and set up his camp on the other side of the tower of Eder.

35:22 While Jacob was living in that land, Reuben had sexual intercourse with Bilhah, one of his father's concubines; Jacob heard about it and was furious. /Jacob had twelve sons.

35:23 The sons of Leah were Reuben (Jacob's oldest son), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

35:24 The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.

35:25 The sons of Rachel's slave Bilhah were Dan and Naphtali.

35:26 The sons of Leah's slave Zilpah were Gad and Asher. These sons were born in Mesopotamia.

35:27 Jacob went to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac had lived.

35:28 Isaac lived to be a hundred and eighty years old

35:29 and died at a ripe old age; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
