36:1 エサウ、すなわちエドムの系図は次のとおりである。

36:2 エサウは、カナンの娘たちの中から妻を迎えた。ヘト人エロンの娘アダ、ヒビ人ツィブオンの孫娘でアナの娘オホリバマ、

36:3 それに、ネバヨトの姉妹でイシュマエルの娘バセマトである。

36:4 アダは、エサウとの間にエリファズを産み、バセマトはレウエルを産んだ。

36:5 オホリバマは、エウシュ、ヤラム、コラを産んだ。これらは、カナン地方で生まれたエサウの息子たちである。

36:6 エサウは、妻、息子、娘、家で働くすべての人々、家畜の群れ、すべての動物を連れ、カナンの土地で手に入れた全財産を携え、弟ヤコブのところから離れてほかの土地へ出て行った。

36:7 彼らの所有物は一緒に住むにはあまりにも多く、滞在していた土地は彼らの家畜を養うには狭すぎたからである。

36:8 エサウはこうして、セイルの山地に住むようになった。エサウとはエドムのことである。

36:9 セイルの山地に住む、エドム人の先祖エサウの系図は次のとおりである。

36:10 まず、エサウの息子たちの名前を挙げると、エリファズはエサウの妻アダの子で、レウエルはエサウの妻バセマトの子である。

36:11 エリファズの息子たちは、テマン、オマル、ツェフォ、ガタム、ケナズである。

36:12 エサウの息子エリファズの側女ティムナは、エリファズとの間にアマレクを産んだ。以上が、エサウの妻アダの子孫である。

36:13 レウエルの息子たちは、ナハト、ゼラ、シャンマ、ミザである。以上が、エサウの妻バセマトの子孫である。

36:14 ツィブオンの孫娘で、アナの娘であるエサウの妻オホリバマの息子たちは、次のとおりである。彼女は、エサウとの間にエウシュ、ヤラム、コラを産んだ。

36:15 エサウの子孫である首長は次のとおりである。まず、エサウの長男エリファズの息子たちについていえば、首長テマン、首長オマル、首長ツェフォ、首長ケナズ、

36:16 首長コラ、首長ガタム、首長アマレクである。これらは、エドム地方に住むエリファズ系の首長で、アダの子孫である。

36:17 次に、エサウの子レウエルの息子たちについていえば、首長ナハト、首長ゼラ、首長シャンマ、首長ミザである。これらは、エドム地方に住むレウエル系の首長で、エサウの妻バセマトの子孫である。

36:18 エサウの妻オホリバマの息子たちについていえば、首長エウシュ、首長ヤラム、首長コラである。これらは、アナの娘であるエサウの妻オホリバマから生まれた首長である。

36:19 以上が、エサウ、すなわちエドムの子孫である首長たちである。

◆セイルの子孫

36:20 この土地に住むフリ人セイルの息子たちは、ロタン、ショバル、ツィブオン、アナ、

36:21 ディション、エツェル、ディシャンである。これらは、エドム地方に住むセイルの息子で、フリ人の首長たちである。

36:22 ロタンの息子たちは、ホリとヘマムであり、ロタンの妹がティムナである。

36:23 ショバルの息子たちは、アルワン、マナハト、エバル、シェフォ、オナムである。

36:24 ツィブオンの息子たちは、アヤとアナである。アナは父ツィブオンのろばを飼っていたとき、荒れ野で泉を発見した人である。

36:25 アナの子供たちは、ディションとアナの娘オホリバマである。

36:26 ディションの息子たちは、ヘムダン、エシュバン、イトラン、ケランである。

36:27 エツェルの息子たちは、ビルハン、ザアワン、アカンである。

36:28 ディシャンの息子たちは、ウツとアランである。

36:29 フリ人の首長は次のとおりである。首長ロタン、首長ショバル、首長ツィブオン、首長アナ、

◆エドムの王国

36:31 イスラエルの人々を治める王がまだいなかった時代に、エドム地方を治めていた王たちは次のとおりである。

36:32 エドムで治めていたのは、ベオルの息子ベラであり、その町の名はディンハバといった。

36:33 ベラが死んで、代わりに王となったのは、ボツラ出身でゼラの息子ヨバブである。

36:34 ヨバブが死んで、代わりに王となったのは、テマン人の土地から出たフシャムである。

36:35 フシャムが死んで代わりに王となったのは、ベダドの息子ハダドであり、モアブの野でミディアン人を撃退した人である。その町の名はアビトといった。

36:36 ハダドが死んで代わりに王となったのは、マスレカ出身のサムラである。

36:37 サムラが死んで代わりに王となったのは、ユーフラテス川のレホボト出身のシャウルである。

36:38 シャウルが死んで、代わりに王となったのは、アクボルの息子バアル・ハナンである。

36:39 アクボルの息子バアル・ハナンが死んで代わりに王となったのは、ハダドである。その町の名はパウといい、その妻の名はメヘタブエルといった。彼女はマトレドの娘で、メ・ザハブの孫娘である。

36:40 エサウ系の首長たちの名前を氏族と場所の名に従って挙げれば、首長ティムナ、首長アルワ、首長エテト、

36:41 首長オホリバマ、首長エラ、首長ピノン、

36:42 首長ケナズ、首長テマン、首長ミブツァル、

36:43 首長マグディエル、首長イラムである。以上がエドムの首長であって、彼らが所有した領地に従って挙げたものである。エサウは、エドム人の先祖である。

36:1 These are the descendants of Esau, also called Edom.

36:2 Esau married Canaanite women: Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah son of Zibeon the Hivite;

36:3 and Basemath, the daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.

36:4 Adah bore Eliphaz; Basemath bore Reuel;

36:5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. All these sons were born to Esau in the land of Canaan.

36:6 Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the people of his house, along with all his livestock and all the possessions he had gotten in the land of Canaan, and went away from his brother Jacob to another land.

36:7 He left because the land where he and Jacob were living was not able to support them; they had too much livestock and could no longer stay together.

36:8 So Esau lived in the hill country of Edom.

36:9 These are the descendants of Esau, the ancestor of the Edomites.

36:10 -13 Esau's wife Adah bore him one son, Eliphaz, and Eliphaz had five sons: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. And by another wife, Timna, he had one more son, Amalek. /Esau's wife Basemath bore him one son, Reuel, and Reuel had four sons: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.

36:14 Esau's wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah son of Zibeon, bore him three sons: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

36:15 These are the tribes descended from Esau. Esau's first son Eliphaz was the ancestor of the following tribes: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

36:16 Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These were all descendants of Esau's wife Adah.

36:17 Esau's son Reuel was the ancestor of the following tribes: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were all descendants of Esau's wife Basemath.

36:18 The following tribes were descended from Esau by his wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

36:19 All these tribes were descended from Esau.

36:20 -21 The original inhabitants of the land of Edom were divided into tribes which traced their ancestry to the following descendants of Seir, a Horite: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.

36:22 Lotan was the ancestor of the clans of Hori and Heman. (Lotan had a sister named Timna.)

36:23 Shobal was the ancestor of the clans of Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

36:24 Zibeon had two sons, Aiah and Anah. (This is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness when he was taking care of his father's donkeys.)

36:25 -26 Anah was the father of Dishon, who was the ancestor of the clans of Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. Anah also had a daughter named Oholibamah.

36:27 Ezer was the ancestor of the clans of Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.

36:28 Dishan was the ancestor of the clans of Uz and Aran.

36:29 -30 These are the Horite tribes in the land of Edom: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.

36:31 -39 Before there were any kings in Israel, the following kings ruled the land of Edom in succession: /Bela son of Beor from Dinhabah /Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah /Husham from the region of Teman /Hadad son of Bedad from Avith (he defeated the Midianites in a battle in the country of Moab) /Samlah from Masrekah /Shaul from Rehoboth-on-the-River /Baal Hanan son of Achbor /Hadad from Pau (his wife was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred and granddaughter of Mezahab)
