40:1 これらのことの後で、エジプト王の給仕役と料理役が主君であるエジプト王に過ちを犯した。

40:2 ファラオは怒って、この二人の宮廷の役人、給仕役の長と料理役の長を、

40:3 侍従長の家にある牢獄、つまりヨセフがつながれている監獄に引き渡した。

40:4 侍従長は彼らをヨセフに預け、身辺の世話をさせた。牢獄の中で幾日かが過ぎたが、

40:5 監獄につながれていたエジプト王の給仕役と料理役は、二人とも同じ夜にそれぞれ夢を見た。その夢には、それぞれ意味が隠されていた。

40:6 朝になって、ヨセフが二人のところへ行ってみると、二人ともふさぎ込んでいた。

40:7 ヨセフは主人の家の牢獄に自分と一緒に入れられているファラオの宮廷の役人に尋ねた。「今日は、どうしてそんなに憂うつな顔をしているのですか。」

40:8 「我々は夢を見たのだが、それを解き明かしてくれる人がいない」と二人は答えた。ヨセフは、「解き明かしは神がなさることではありませんか。どうかわたしに話してみてください」と言った。

40:9 給仕役の長はヨセフに自分の見た夢を話した。「わたしが夢を見ていると、一本のぶどうの木が目の前に現れたのです。

40:10 そのぶどうの木には三本のつるがありました。それがみるみるうちに芽を出したかと思うと、すぐに花が咲き、ふさふさとしたぶどうが熟しました。

40:11 ファラオの杯を手にしていたわたしは、そのぶどうを取って、ファラオの杯に搾り、その杯をファラオにささげました。」

40:12 ヨセフは言った。「その解き明かしはこうです。三本のつるは三日です。

40:13 三日たてば、ファラオがあなたの頭を上げて、元の職務に復帰させてくださいます。あなたは以前、給仕役であったときのように、ファラオに杯をささげる役目をするようになります。

40:14 ついては、あなたがそのように幸せになられたときには、どうかわたしのことを思い出してください。わたしのためにファラオにわたしの身の上を話し、この家から出られるように取り計らってください。

40:15 わたしはヘブライ人の国から無理やり連れて来られたのです。また、ここでも、牢屋に入れられるようなことは何もしていないのです。」

40:16 料理役の長は、ヨセフが巧みに解き明かすのを見て言った。「わたしも夢を見ていると、編んだ籠が三個わたしの頭の上にありました。

40:17 いちばん上の籠には、料理役がファラオのために調えたいろいろな料理が入っていましたが、鳥がわたしの頭の上の籠からそれを食べているのです。」

40:18 ヨセフは答えた。「その解き明かしはこうです。三個の籠は三日です。

40:19 三日たてば、ファラオがあなたの頭を上げて切り離し、あなたを木にかけます。そして、鳥があなたの肉をついばみます。」

40:20 三日目はファラオの誕生日であったので、ファラオは家来たちを皆、招いて、祝宴を催した。そして、家来たちの居並ぶところで例の給仕役の長の頭と料理役の長の頭を上げて調べた。

40:21 ファラオは給仕役の長を給仕の職に復帰させたので、彼はファラオに杯をささげる役目をするようになったが、

40:22 料理役の長は、ヨセフが解き明かしたとおり木にかけられた。

40:23 ところが、給仕役の長はヨセフのことを思い出さず、忘れてしまった。

新共同 創  41:1-57

41:1 二年の後、ファラオは夢を見た。ナイル川のほとりに立っていると、

41:2 突然、つややかな、よく肥えた七頭の雌牛が川から上がって来て、葦辺で草を食べ始めた。

41:3 すると、その後から、今度は醜い、やせ細った七頭の雌牛が川から上がって来て、岸辺にいる雌牛のそばに立った。

41:4 そして、醜い、やせ細った雌牛が、つややかな、よく肥えた七頭の雌牛を食い尽くした。ファラオは、そこで目が覚めた。

41:5 ファラオがまた眠ると、再び夢を見た。今度は、太って、よく実った七つの穂が、一本の茎から出てきた。

41:6 すると、その後から、実が入っていない、東風で干からびた七つの穂が生えてきて、

41:7 実の入っていない穂が、太って、実の入った七つの穂をのみ込んでしまった。ファラオは、そこで目が覚めた。それは夢であった。

41:8 朝になって、ファラオはひどく心が騒ぎ、エジプト中の魔術師と賢者をすべて呼び集めさせ、自分の見た夢を彼らに話した。しかし、ファラオに解き明かすことができる者はいなかった。

41:9 そのとき、例の給仕役の長がファラオに申し出た。「わたしは、今日になって自分の過ちを思い出しました。

41:10 かつてファラオが僕どもについて憤られて、侍従長の家にある牢獄にわたしと料理役の長を入れられたとき、

41:11 同じ夜に、わたしたちはそれぞれ夢を見たのですが、そのどちらにも意味が隠されていました。

41:12 そこには、侍従長に仕えていたヘブライ人の若者がおりまして、彼に話をしたところ、わたしたちの夢を解き明かし、それぞれ、その夢に応じて解き明かしたのです。

41:13 そしてまさしく、解き明かしたとおりになって、わたしは元の職務に復帰することを許され、彼は木にかけられました。」

41:14 そこで、ファラオはヨセフを呼びにやった。ヨセフは直ちに牢屋から連れ出され、散髪をし着物を着替えてから、ファラオの前に出た。

41:15 ファラオはヨセフに言った。「わたしは夢を見たのだが、それを解き明かす者がいない。聞くところによれば、お前は夢の話を聞いて、解き明かすことができるそうだが。」

41:16 ヨセフはファラオに答えた。「わたしではありません。神がファラオの幸いについて告げられるのです。」

41:17 ファラオはヨセフに話した。「夢の中で、わたしがナイル川の岸に立っていると、

41:18 突然、よく肥えて、つややかな七頭の雌牛が川から上がって来て、葦辺で草を食べ始めた。

41:19 すると、その後から、今度は貧弱で、とても醜い、やせた七頭の雌牛が上がって来た。あれほどひどいのは、エジプトでは見たことがない。

41:20 そして、そのやせた、醜い雌牛が、初めのよく肥えた七頭の雌牛を食い尽くしてしまった。

41:21 ところが、確かに腹の中に入れたのに、腹の中に入れたことがまるで分からないほど、最初と同じように醜いままなのだ。わたしは、そこで目が覚めた。

41:22 それからまた、夢の中でわたしは見たのだが、今度は、とてもよく実の入った七つの穂が一本の茎から出てきた。

41:23 すると、その後から、やせ細り、実が入っておらず、東風で干からびた七つの穂が生えてきた。

41:24 そして、実の入っていないその穂が、よく実った七つの穂をのみ込んでしまった。わたしは魔術師たちに話したが、その意味を告げうる者は一人もいなかった。」

41:25 ヨセフはファラオに言った。「ファラオの夢は、どちらも同じ意味でございます。神がこれからなさろうとしていることを、ファラオにお告げになったのです。

41:26 七頭のよく育った雌牛は七年のことです。七つのよく実った穂も七年のことです。どちらの夢も同じ意味でございます。

41:27 その後から上がって来た七頭のやせた、醜い雌牛も七年のことです。また、やせて、東風で干からびた七つの穂も同じで、これらは七年の飢饉のことです。

41:28 これは、先程ファラオに申し上げましたように、神がこれからなさろうとしていることを、ファラオにお示しになったのです。

41:29 今から七年間、エジプトの国全体に大豊作が訪れます。

41:30 しかし、その後に七年間、飢饉が続き、エジプトの国に豊作があったことなど、すっかり忘れられてしまうでしょう。飢饉が国を滅ぼしてしまうのです。

41:31 この国に豊作があったことは、その後に続く飢饉のために全く忘れられてしまうでしょう。飢饉はそれほどひどいのです。

41:32 ファラオが夢を二度も重ねて見られたのは、神がこのことを既に決定しておられ、神が間もなく実行されようとしておられるからです。

41:33 このような次第ですから、ファラオは今すぐ、聡明で知恵のある人物をお見つけになって、エジプトの国を治めさせ、

41:34 また、国中に監督官をお立てになり、豊作の七年の間、エジプトの国の産物の五分の一を徴収なさいますように。

41:35 このようにして、これから訪れる豊年の間に食糧をできるかぎり集めさせ、町々の食糧となる穀物をファラオの管理の下に蓄え、保管させるのです。

41:36 そうすれば、その食糧がエジプトの国を襲う七年の飢饉に対する国の備蓄となり、飢饉によって国が滅びることはないでしょう。」

◆ヨセフの支配

41:37 ファラオと家来たちは皆、ヨセフの言葉に感心した。

41:38 ファラオは家来たちに、「このように神の霊が宿っている人はほかにあるだろうか」と言い、

41:39 ヨセフの方を向いてファラオは言った。「神がそういうことをみな示されたからには、お前ほど聡明で知恵のある者は、ほかにはいないであろう。

41:40 お前をわが宮廷の責任者とする。わが国民は皆、お前の命に従うであろう。ただ王位にあるということでだけ、わたしはお前の上に立つ。」

41:41 ファラオはヨセフに向かって、「見よ、わたしは今、お前をエジプト全国の上に立てる」と言い、

41:42 印章のついた指輪を自分の指からはずしてヨセフの指にはめ、亜麻布の衣服を着せ、金の首飾りをヨセフの首にかけた。

41:43 ヨセフを王の第二の車に乗せると、人々はヨセフの前で、「アブレク（敬礼）」と叫んだ。ファラオはこうして、ヨセフをエジプト全国の上に立て、

41:44 ヨセフに言った。「わたしはファラオである。お前の許しなしには、このエジプト全国で、だれも、手足を上げてはならない。」

41:45 ファラオは更に、ヨセフにツァフェナト・パネアという名を与え、オンの祭司ポティ・フェラの娘アセナトを妻として与えた。ヨセフの威光はこうして、エジプトの国にあまねく及んだ。

41:46 ヨセフは、エジプトの王ファラオの前に立ったとき三十歳であった。ヨセフはファラオの前をたって、エジプト全国を巡回した。

41:47 豊作の七年の間、大地は豊かな実りに満ち溢れた。

41:48 ヨセフはその七年の間に、エジプトの国中の食糧をできるかぎり集め、その食糧を町々に蓄えさせた。町の周囲の畑にできた食糧を、その町の中に蓄えさせたのである。

41:49 ヨセフは、海辺の砂ほども多くの穀物を蓄え、ついに量りきれなくなったので、量るのをやめた。

41:50 飢饉の年がやって来る前に、ヨセフに二人の息子が生まれた。この子供を産んだのは、オンの祭司ポティ・フェラの娘アセナトである。

41:51 ヨセフは長男をマナセ（忘れさせる）と名付けて言った。「神が、わたしの苦労と父の家のことをすべて忘れさせてくださった。」

41:52 また、次男をエフライム（増やす）と名付けて言った。「神は、悩みの地で、わたしに子孫を増やしてくださった。」

41:53 エジプトの国に七年間の大豊作が終わると、

41:54 ヨセフが言ったとおり、七年の飢饉が始まった。その飢饉はすべての国々を襲ったが、エジプトには、全国どこにでも食物があった。

41:55 やがて、エジプト全国にも飢饉が広がり、民がファラオに食物を叫び求めた。ファラオはすべてのエジプト人に、「ヨセフのもとに行って、ヨセフの言うとおりにせよ」と命じた。

41:56 飢饉は世界各地に及んだ。ヨセフはすべての穀倉を開いてエジプト人に穀物を売ったが、エジプトの国の飢饉は激しくなっていった。

41:57 また、世界各地の人々も、穀物を買いにエジプトのヨセフのもとにやって来るようになった。世界各地の飢饉も激しくなったからである。 

ＴＥＶ 創  40:1-23

40:1 Some time later the king of Egypt's wine steward and his chief baker offended the king.

40:2 He was angry with these two officials

40:3 and put them in prison in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same place where Joseph was being kept.

40:4 They spent a long time in prison, and the captain assigned Joseph as their servant.

40:5 One night there in prison the wine steward and the chief baker each had a dream, and the dreams had different meanings.

40:6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were upset.

40:7 He asked them, "Why do you look so worried today?"

40:8 They answered, "Each of us had a dream, and there is no one here to explain what the dreams mean." /"It is God who gives the ability to interpret dreams," Joseph said. "Tell me your dreams."

40:9 So the wine steward said, "In my dream there was a grapevine in front of me

40:10 with three branches on it. As soon as the leaves came out, the blossoms appeared, and the grapes ripened.

40:11 I was holding the king's cup; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into the cup and gave it to him."

40:12 Joseph said, "This is what it means: the three branches are three days.

40:13 In three days the king will release you, pardon you, and restore you to your position. You will give him his cup as you did before when you were his wine steward.

40:14 But please remember me when everything is going well for you, and please be kind enough to mention me to the king and help me get out of this prison.

40:15 After all, I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here in Egypt I didn't do anything to deserve being put in prison."

40:16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation of the wine steward's dream was favorable, he said to Joseph, "I had a dream too; I was carrying three breadbaskets on my head.

40:17 In the top basket there were all kinds of baked goods for the king, and the birds were eating them."

40:18 Joseph answered, "This is what it means: the three baskets are three days.

40:19 In three days the king will release you-and have your head cut off! Then he will hang your body on a pole, and the birds will eat your flesh."

40:20 On his birthday three days later the king gave a banquet for all his officials; he released his wine steward and his chief baker and brought them before his officials.

40:21 He restored the wine steward to his former position,

40:22 but he executed the chief baker. It all happened just as Joseph had said.

40:23 But the wine steward never gave Joseph another thought-he forgot all about him.

ＴＥＶ 創  41:1-57

41:1 After two years had passed, the king of Egypt dreamed that he was standing by the Nile River,

41:2 when seven cows, fat and sleek, came up out of the river and began to feed on the grass.

41:3 Then seven other cows came up; they were thin and bony. They came and stood by the other cows on the riverbank,

41:4 and the thin cows ate up the fat cows. Then the king woke up.

41:5 He fell asleep again and had another dream. Seven heads of grain, full and ripe, were growing on one stalk.

41:6 Then seven other heads of grain sprouted, thin and scorched by the desert wind,

41:7 and the thin heads of grain swallowed the full ones. The king woke up and realized that he had been dreaming.

41:8 In the morning he was worried, so he sent for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. He told them his dreams, but no one could explain them to him.

41:9 Then the wine steward said to the king, "I must confess today that I have done wrong.

41:10 You were angry with the chief baker and me, and you put us in prison in the house of the captain of the guard.

41:11 One night each of us had a dream, and the dreams had different meanings.

41:12 A young Hebrew was there with us, a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted them for us.

41:13 Things turned out just as he said: you restored me to my position, but you executed the baker."

41:14 The king sent for Joseph, and he was immediately brought from the prison. After he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came into the king's presence.

41:15 The king said to him, "I have had a dream, and no one can explain it. I have been told that you can interpret dreams."

41:16 Joseph answered, "I cannot, Your Majesty, but God will give a favorable interpretation."

41:17 The king said, "I dreamed that I was standing on the bank of the Nile,

41:18 when seven cows, fat and sleek, came up out of the river and began feeding on the grass.

41:19 Then seven other cows came up which were thin and bony. They were the poorest cows I have ever seen anywhere in Egypt.

41:20 The thin cows ate up the fat ones,

41:21 but no one would have known it, because they looked just as bad as before. Then I woke up.

41:22 I also dreamed that I saw seven heads of grain which were full and ripe, growing on one stalk.

41:23 Then seven heads of grain sprouted, thin and scorched by the desert wind,

41:24 and the thin heads of grain swallowed the full ones. I told the dreams to the magicians, but none of them could explain them to me."

41:25 Joseph said to the king, "The two dreams mean the same thing; God has told you what he is going to do.

41:26 The seven fat cows are seven years, and the seven full heads of grain are also seven years; they have the same meaning.

41:27 The seven thin cows which came up later and the seven thin heads of grain scorched by the desert wind are seven years of famine.

41:28 It is just as I told you-God has shown you what he is going to do.

41:29 There will be seven years of great plenty in all the land of Egypt.

41:30 After that, there will be seven years of famine, and all the good years will be forgotten, because the famine will ruin the country.

41:31 The time of plenty will be entirely forgotten, because the famine which follows will be so terrible.

41:32 The repetition of your dream means that the matter is fixed by God and that he will make it happen in the near future.

41:33 "Now you should choose some man with wisdom and insight and put him in charge of the country.

41:34 You must also appoint other officials and take a fifth of the crops during the seven years of plenty.

41:35 Order them to collect all the food during the good years that are coming, and give them authority to store up grain in the cities and guard it.

41:36 The food will be a reserve supply for the country during the seven years of famine which are going to come on Egypt. In this way the people will not starve."

41:37 The king and his officials approved this plan,

41:38 and he said to them, "We will never find a better man than Joseph, a man who has God's spirit in him."

41:39 The king said to Joseph, "God has shown you all this, so it is obvious that you have greater wisdom and insight than anyone else.

41:40 I will put you in charge of my country, and all my people will obey your orders. Your authority will be second only to mine.

41:41 I now appoint you governor over all Egypt."

41:42 The king removed from his finger the ring engraved with the royal seal and put it on Joseph's finger. He put a fine linen robe on him, and placed a gold chain around his neck.

41:43 He gave him the second royal chariot to ride in, and his guard of honor went ahead of him and cried out, "Make way! Make way!" And so Joseph was appointed governor over all Egypt.

41:44 The king said to him, "I am the king-and no one in all Egypt shall so much as lift a hand or a foot without your permission."

41:45 -46 He gave Joseph the Egyptian name Zaphenath Paneah, and he gave him a wife, Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, a priest in the city of Heliopolis. /Joseph was thirty years old when he began to serve the king of Egypt. He left the king's court and traveled all over the land.

41:46

41:47 During the seven years of plenty the land produced abundant crops,

41:48 all of which Joseph collected and stored in the cities. In each city he stored the food from the fields around it.

41:49 There was so much grain that Joseph stopped measuring it-it was like the sand of the sea.

41:50 Before the years of famine came, Joseph had two sons by Asenath.

41:51 He said, "God has made me forget all my sufferings and all my father's family"; so he named his first son Manasseh.

41:52 He also said, "God has given me children in the land of my trouble"; so he named his second son Ephraim.

41:53 The seven years of plenty that the land of Egypt had enjoyed came to an end,

41:54 and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in every other country, but there was food throughout Egypt.

41:55 When the Egyptians began to be hungry, they cried out to the king for food. So he ordered them to go to Joseph and do what he told them.

41:56 The famine grew worse and spread over the whole country, so Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians.

41:57 People came to Egypt from all over the world to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.
