47:1 ヨセフはファラオのところへ行き、「わたしの父と兄弟たちが、羊や牛をはじめ、すべての財産を携えて、カナン地方からやって来て、今、ゴシェンの地におります」と報告した。

47:2 そのときヨセフは、兄弟の中から五人を選んで、ファラオの前に連れて行った。

47:3 ファラオはヨセフの兄弟たちに言った。「お前たちの仕事は何か。」兄弟たちが、「あなたの僕であるわたしどもは、先祖代々、羊飼いでございます」と答え、

47:4 更に続けてファラオに言った。「わたしどもはこの国に寄留させていただきたいと思って、参りました。カナン地方は飢饉がひどく、僕たちの羊を飼うための牧草がありません。僕たちをゴシェンの地に住まわせてください。」

47:5 ファラオはヨセフに向かって言った。「父上と兄弟たちが、お前のところにやって来たのだ。

47:6 エジプトの国のことはお前に任せてあるのだから、最も良い土地に父上と兄弟たちを住まわせるがよい。ゴシェンの地に住まわせるのもよかろう。もし、一族の中に有能な者がいるなら、わたしの家畜の監督をさせるがよい。」

47:7 それから、ヨセフは父ヤコブを連れて来て、ファラオの前に立たせた。ヤコブはファラオに祝福の言葉を述べた。

47:8 ファラオが、「あなたは何歳におなりですか」とヤコブに語りかけると、

47:9 ヤコブはファラオに答えた。「わたしの旅路の年月は百三十年です。わたしの生涯の年月は短く、苦しみ多く、わたしの先祖たちの生涯や旅路の年月には及びません。」

47:10 ヤコブは、別れの挨拶をして、ファラオの前から退出した。

47:11 ヨセフはファラオが命じたように、父と兄弟たちの住まいを定め、エジプトの国に所有地を与えた。そこは、ラメセス地方の最も良い土地であった。

47:12 ヨセフはまた、父と兄弟たちと父の家族の者すべてを養い、扶養すべき者の数に従って食糧を与えた。

◆ヨセフの政策

47:13 飢饉が極めて激しく、世界中に食糧がなくなった。エジプトの国でも、カナン地方でも、人々は飢饉のために苦しみあえいだ。

47:14 ヨセフは、エジプトの国とカナン地方の人々が穀物の代金として支払った銀をすべて集め、それをファラオの宮廷に納めた。

47:15 エジプトの国にもカナン地方にも、銀が尽き果てると、エジプト人は皆、ヨセフのところにやって来て、「食べる物をください。あなたさまは、わたしどもを見殺しになさるおつもりですか。銀はなくなってしまいました」と言った。

47:16 ヨセフは答えた。「家畜を連れて来なさい。もし銀がなくなったのなら、家畜と引き換えに与えよう。」

47:17 人々が家畜をヨセフのところに連れて来ると、ヨセフは、馬や、羊や牛の群れや、ろばと引き換えに食糧を与えた。ヨセフはこうして、その年、すべての家畜と引き換えに人々に食糧を分け与えた。

47:18 その年も終わり、次の年になると、人々はまたヨセフのところに来て、言った。「御主君には、何もかも隠さずに申し上げます。銀はすっかりなくなり、家畜の群れも御主君のものとなって、御覧のように残っているのは、わたしどもの体と農地だけです。

47:19 どうしてあなたさまの前で、わたしどもと農地が滅んでしまってよいでしょうか。食糧と引き換えに、わたしどもと土地を買い上げてください。わたしどもは農地とともに、ファラオの奴隷になります。種をお与えください。そうすれば、わたしどもは死なずに生きることができ、農地も荒れ果てないでしょう。」

47:20 ヨセフは、エジプト中のすべての農地をファラオのために買い上げた。飢饉が激しくなったので、エジプト人は皆自分の畑を売ったからである。土地はこうして、ファラオのものとなった。

47:21 また民については、エジプト領の端から端まで、ヨセフが彼らを奴隷にした。

47:22 ただし、祭司の農地だけは買い上げなかった。祭司にはファラオからの給与があって、ファラオが与える給与で生活していたので、農地を売らなかったからである。

47:23 ヨセフは民に言った。「よいか、お前たちは今日、農地とともにファラオに買い取られたのだ。さあ、ここに種があるから、畑に蒔きなさい。

47:24 収穫の時には、五分の一をファラオに納め、五分の四はお前たちのものとするがよい。それを畑に蒔く種にしたり、お前たちや家族の者の食糧とし、子供たちの食糧としなさい。」

47:25 彼らは言った。「あなたさまはわたしどもの命の恩人です。御主君の御好意によって、わたしどもはファラオの奴隷にさせていただきます。」

47:26 ヨセフはこのように、収穫の五分の一をファラオに納めることを、エジプトの農業の定めとした。それは今日まで続いている。ただし、祭司の農地だけはファラオのものにならなかった。

◆ヤコブの遺言

47:27 イスラエルは、エジプトの国、ゴシェンの地域に住み、そこに土地を得て、子を産み、大いに数を増した。

47:28 ヤコブは、エジプトの国で十七年生きた。ヤコブの生涯は百四十七年であった。

47:29 イスラエルは死ぬ日が近づいたとき、息子ヨセフを呼び寄せて言った。「もし、お前がわたしの願いを聞いてくれるなら、お前の手をわたしの腿の間に入れ、わたしのために慈しみとまことをもって実行すると、誓ってほしい。どうか、わたしをこのエジプトには葬らないでくれ。

47:30 わたしが先祖たちと共に眠りについたなら、わたしをエジプトから運び出して、先祖たちの墓に葬ってほしい。」ヨセフが、「必ず、おっしゃるとおりにいたします」と答えると、

47:31 「では、誓ってくれ」と言ったので、ヨセフは誓った。イスラエルは、寝台の枕もとで感謝を表した。

48:1 これらのことの後で、ヨセフに、「お父上が御病気です」との知らせが入ったので、ヨセフは二人の息子マナセとエフライムを連れて行った。

48:2 ある人がヤコブに、「御子息のヨセフさまが、ただいまお見えになりました」と知らせると、イスラエルは力を奮い起こして、寝台の上に座った。

48:3 ヤコブはヨセフに言った。「全能の神がカナン地方のルズでわたしに現れて、わたしを祝福してくださったとき、

48:4 こう言われた。『あなたの子孫を繁栄させ、数を増やし／あなたを諸国民の群れとしよう。この土地をあなたに続く子孫に／永遠の所有地として与えよう。』

48:5 今、わたしがエジプトのお前のところに来る前に、エジプトの国で生まれたお前の二人の息子をわたしの子供にしたい。エフライムとマナセは、ルベンやシメオンと同じように、わたしの子となるが、

48:6 その後に生まれる者はお前のものとしてよい。しかし、彼らの嗣業の土地は兄たちの名で呼ばれるであろう。

48:7 わたしはパダンから帰る途中、ラケルに死なれてしまった。あれはカナン地方で、エフラトまで行くには、まだかなりの道のりがある途中でのことだった。わたしはラケルを、エフラト、つまり今のベツレヘムへ向かう道のほとりに葬った。」

48:8 イスラエルは、ヨセフの息子たちを見ながら、「これは誰か」と尋ねた。

48:9 ヨセフが父に、「神が、ここで授けてくださったわたしの息子です」と答えると、父は、「ここへ連れて来なさい。彼らを祝福しよう」と言った。

48:10 イスラエルの目は老齢のためかすんでよく見えなかったので、ヨセフが二人の息子を父のもとに近寄らせると、父は彼らに口づけをして抱き締めた。

48:11 イスラエルはヨセフに言った。「お前の顔さえ見ることができようとは思わなかったのに、なんと、神はお前の子供たちをも見させてくださった。」

48:12 ヨセフは彼らを父の膝から離し、地にひれ伏して拝した。

48:13 ヨセフは二人の息子のうち、エフライムを自分の右手でイスラエルの左手に向かわせ、マナセを自分の左手でイスラエルの右手に向かわせ、二人を近寄らせた。

48:14 イスラエルは右手を伸ばして、弟であるエフライムの頭の上に置き、左手をマナセの頭の上に置いた。つまり、マナセが長男であるのに、彼は両手を交差して置いたのである。

48:15 そして、ヨセフを祝福して言った。「わたしの先祖アブラハムとイサクが／その御前に歩んだ神よ。わたしの生涯を今日まで／導かれた牧者なる神よ。

48:16 わたしをあらゆる苦しみから／贖われた御使いよ。どうか、この子供たちの上に／祝福をお与えください。どうか、わたしの名と／わたしの先祖アブラハム、イサクの名が／彼らによって覚えられますように。どうか、彼らがこの地上に／数多く増え続けますように。」

48:17 ヨセフは、父が右手をエフライムの頭の上に置いているのを見て、不満に思い、父の手を取ってエフライムの頭からマナセの頭へ移そうとした。

48:18 ヨセフは父に言った。「父上、そうではありません。これが長男ですから、右手をこれの頭の上に置いてください。」

48:19 ところが、父はそれを拒んで言った。「いや、分かっている。わたしの子よ、わたしには分かっている。この子も一つの民となり、大きくなるであろう。しかし、弟の方が彼よりも大きくなり、その子孫は国々に満ちるものとなる。」

48:20 その日、父は彼らを祝福して言った。「あなたによって／イスラエルは人を祝福して言うであろう。『どうか、神があなたを／エフライムとマナセのように／してくださるように。』」彼はこのように、エフライムをマナセの上に立てたのである。

48:21 イスラエルはヨセフに言った。「間もなく、わたしは死ぬ。だが、神がお前たちと共にいてくださり、きっとお前たちを先祖の国に導き帰らせてくださる。

48:22 わたしは、お前に兄弟たちよりも多く、わたしが剣と弓をもってアモリ人の手から取った一つの分け前（シェケム）を与えることにする。」

47:1 So Joseph took five of his brothers and went to the king. He told him, "My father and my brothers have come from Canaan with their flocks, their herds, and all that they own. They are now in the region of Goshen."

47:2 He then presented his brothers to the king.

47:3 The king asked them, "What is your occupation?" /"We are shepherds, sir, just as our ancestors were," they answered.

47:4 "We have come to live in this country, because in the land of Canaan the famine is so severe that there is no pasture for our flocks. Please give us permission to live in the region of Goshen."

47:5 The king said to Joseph, "Now that your father and your brothers have arrived,

47:6 the land of Egypt is theirs. Let them settle in the region of Goshen, the best part of the land. And if there are any capable men among them, put them in charge of my own livestock."

47:7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him to the king. Jacob gave the king his blessing,

47:8 and the king asked him, "How old are you?"

47:9 Jacob answered, "My life of wandering has lasted a hundred and thirty years. Those years have been few and difficult, unlike the long years of my ancestors in their wanderings."

47:10 Jacob gave the king a farewell blessing and left.

47:11 Then Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt, giving them property in the best of the land near the city of Rameses, as the king had commanded.

47:12 Joseph provided food for his father, his brothers, and all the rest of his father's family, including the very youngest.

47:13 The famine was so severe that there was no food anywhere, and the people of Egypt and Canaan became weak with hunger.

47:14 As they bought grain, Joseph collected all the money and took it to the palace.

47:15 When all the money in Egypt and Canaan was spent, the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us food! Don't let us die. Do something! Our money is all gone."

47:16 Joseph answered, "Bring your livestock; I will give you food in exchange for it if your money is all gone."

47:17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses, sheep, goats, cattle, and donkeys. That year he supplied them with food in exchange for all their livestock.

47:18 The following year they came to him and said, "We will not hide the fact from you, sir, that our money is all gone and our livestock belongs to you. There is nothing left to give you except our bodies and our lands.

47:19 Don't let us die. Do something! Don't let our fields be deserted. Buy us and our land in exchange for food. We will be the king's slaves, and he will own our land. Give us grain to keep us alive and seed so that we can plant our fields."

47:20 Joseph bought all the land in Egypt for the king. Every Egyptian was forced to sell his land, because the famine was so severe; and all the land became the king's property.

47:21 Joseph made slaves of the people from one end of Egypt to the other.

47:22 The only land he did not buy was the land that belonged to the priests. They did not have to sell their lands, because the king gave them an allowance to live on.

47:23 Joseph said to the people, "You see, I have now bought you and your lands for the king. Here is seed for you to sow in your fields.

47:24 At the time of harvest you must give one-fifth to the king. You can use the rest for seed and for food for yourselves and your families."

47:25 They answered, "You have saved our lives; you have been good to us, sir, and we will be the king's slaves."

47:26 So Joseph made it a law for the land of Egypt that one-fifth of the harvest should belong to the king. This law still remains in force today. Only the lands of the priests did not become the king's property.

47:27 The Israelites lived in Egypt in the region of Goshen, where they became rich and had many children.

47:28 Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, until he was a hundred and forty-seven years old.

47:29 When the time drew near for him to die, he called for his son Joseph and said to him, "Place your hand between my thighs and make a solemn vow that you will not bury me in Egypt.

47:30 I want to be buried where my fathers are; carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried." /Joseph answered, "I will do as you say."

47:31 Jacob said, "Make a vow that you will." Joseph made the vow, and Jacob gave thanks there on his bed.

ＴＥＶ 創  48:1-22

48:1 Some time later Joseph was told that his father was ill. So he took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and went to see Jacob.

48:2 When Jacob was told that his son Joseph had come to see him, he gathered his strength and sat up in bed.

48:3 Jacob said to Joseph, "Almighty God appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me.

48:4 He said to me, "I will give you many children, so that your descendants will become many nations; I will give this land to your descendants as their possession forever."'

48:5 Jacob continued, "Joseph, your two sons, who were born to you in Egypt before I came here, belong to me; Ephraim and Manasseh are just as much my sons as Reuben and Simeon.

48:6 If you have any more sons, they will not be considered mine; the inheritance they get will come through Ephraim and Manasseh.

48:7 I am doing this because of your mother Rachel. To my great sorrow she died in the land of Canaan, not far from Ephrath, as I was returning from Mesopotamia. I buried her there beside the road to Ephrath." (Ephrath is now known as Bethlehem.)

48:8 When Jacob saw Joseph's sons, he asked, "Who are these boys?"

48:9 Joseph answered, "These are my sons, whom God has given me here in Egypt." /Jacob said, "Bring them to me so that I may bless them."

48:10 Jacob's eyesight was failing because of his age, and he could not see very well. Joseph brought the boys to him, and he hugged them and kissed them.

48:11 Jacob said to Joseph, "I never expected to see you again, and now God has even let me see your children."

48:12 Then Joseph took them from Jacob's lap and bowed down before him with his face to the ground.

48:13 Joseph put Ephraim at Jacob's left and Manasseh at his right.

48:14 But Jacob crossed his hands, and put his right hand on the head of Ephraim, even though he was the younger, and his left hand on the head of Manasseh, who was the older.

48:15 Then he blessed Joseph: /"May God, whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac served, bless these boys! /May God, who has led me to this very day, bless them!

48:16 May the angel, who has rescued me from all harm, bless them! /May my name and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac live on through these boys! /May they have many children, many descendants!"

48:17 Joseph was upset when he saw that his father had put his right hand on Ephraim's head; so he took his father's hand to move it from Ephraim's head to the head of Manasseh.

48:18 He said to his father, "Not that way, father. This is the older boy; put your right hand on his head."

48:19 His father refused, saying, "I know, son, I know. Manasseh's descendants will also become a great people. But his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become great nations."

48:20 So he blessed them that day, saying, "The Israelites will use your names when they pronounce blessings. They will say, "May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh."' In this way Jacob put Ephraim before Manasseh.

48:21 Then Jacob said to Joseph, "As you see, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will take you back to the land of your ancestors.

48:22 It is to you and not to your brothers that I am giving Shechem, that fertile region which I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow."
