6:1 子供たち、主に結ばれている者として両親に従いなさい。それは正しいことです。

6:2 「父と母を敬いなさい。」これは約束を伴う最初の掟です。

6:3 「そうすれば、あなたは幸福になり、地上で長く生きることができる」という約束です。

6:4 父親たち、子供を怒らせてはなりません。主がしつけ諭されるように、育てなさい。

◆奴隷と主人

6:5 奴隷たち、キリストに従うように、恐れおののき、真心を込めて、肉による主人に従いなさい。

6:6 人にへつらおうとして、うわべだけで仕えるのではなく、キリストの奴隷として、心から神の御心を行い、

6:7 人にではなく主に仕えるように、喜んで仕えなさい。

6:8 あなたがたも知っているとおり、奴隷であっても自由な身分の者であっても、善いことを行えば、だれでも主から報いを受けるのです。

6:9 主人たち、同じように奴隷を扱いなさい。彼らを脅すのはやめなさい。あなたがたも知っているとおり、彼らにもあなたがたにも同じ主人が天におられ、人を分け隔てなさらないのです。

◆悪と戦え

6:10 最後に言う。主に依り頼み、その偉大な力によって強くなりなさい。

6:11 悪魔の策略に対抗して立つことができるように、神の武具を身に着けなさい。

6:12 わたしたちの戦いは、血肉を相手にするものではなく、支配と権威、暗闇の世界の支配者、天にいる悪の諸霊を相手にするものなのです。

6:13 だから、邪悪な日によく抵抗し、すべてを成し遂げて、しっかりと立つことができるように、神の武具を身に着けなさい。

6:14 立って、真理を帯として腰に締め、正義を胸当てとして着け、

6:15 平和の福音を告げる準備を履物としなさい。

6:16 なおその上に、信仰を盾として取りなさい。それによって、悪い者の放つ火の矢をことごとく消すことができるのです。

6:1 Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents, for this is the right thing to do.

6:2 "Respect your father and mother" is the first commandment that has a promise added:

6:3 "so that all may go well with you, and you may live a long time in the land."

6:4 Parents, do not treat your children in such a way as to make them angry. Instead, raise them with Christian discipline and instruction.

6:5 Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling; and do it with a sincere heart, as though you were serving Christ.

6:6 Do this not only when they are watching you, because you want to gain their approval; but with all your heart do what God wants, as slaves of Christ.

6:7 Do your work as slaves cheerfully, as though you served the Lord, and not merely human beings.

6:8 Remember that the Lord will reward each of us, whether slave or free, for the good work we do.

6:9 Masters, behave in the same way toward your slaves and stop using threats. Remember that you and your slaves belong to the same Master in heaven, who judges everyone by the same standard.

6:10 Finally, build up your strength in union with the Lord and by means of his mighty power.

6:11 Put on all the armor that God gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the Devil's evil tricks.

6:12 For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age.

6:13 So put on God's armor now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy's attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground.

6:14 So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist, with righteousness as your breastplate,

6:15 and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace.

6:16 At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One.
