10:20 その日には、イスラエルの残りの者とヤコブの家の逃れた者とは、再び自分たちを撃った敵に頼ることなく、イスラエルの聖なる方、主に真実をもって頼る。

10:21 残りの者が帰って来る。ヤコブの残りの者が、力ある神に。

10:22 あなたの民イスラエルが海の砂のようであっても、そのうちの残りの者だけが帰って来る。滅びは定められ、正義がみなぎる。

10:23 万軍の主なる神が、定められた滅びを全世界のただ中で行われるからだ。

◆アッシリアを恐れるな

10:24 それゆえ、万軍の主なる神はこう言われる。「シオンに住むわが民よ、アッシリアを恐れるな。たとえ、エジプトがしたように／彼らがあなたを鞭で打ち、杖を振り上げても。

10:25 やがて、わたしの憤りの尽きるときが来る。わたしの怒りは彼らの滅びに向けられる。

10:26 万軍の主は、彼らに対して鞭を振るわれる／かつて、オレブの岩で／ミディアン人を打たれたように。またエジプトでなされたように／杖を海の上に伸ばされる。

10:27 その日が来れば／あなたの肩から重荷は取り去られ／首に置かれた軛は砕かれる。」

◆敵の攻撃

10:27 彼らはリンモンの前から上って

10:28 アヤトに着き、ミグロンを過ぎて／ミクマスに軍需品を配置した。

10:29 彼らは峠を越え、ゲバに露営した。ラマは震え、サウルのギブアは逃げ去った。

10:30 娘ガリムは叫び声をあげよ。ライシャは耳を傾け、アナトトは彼女に答えよ。

10:31 マドメナは逃げて行き／ゲビムの住民は避難した。

10:32 更に今日、彼らはノブに立ち／娘シオンの山、エルサレムの丘に向かって／進軍の手を振り上げる。

10:33 見よ、万軍の主なる神は／斧をもって、枝を切り落とされる。そびえ立つ木も切り倒され、高い木も倒される。

10:34 主は森の茂みを鉄の斧で断ち／レバノンの大木を切り倒される。

10:20 A time is coming when the people of Israel who have survived will not rely any more on the nation that almost destroyed them. They will truly put their trust in the Lord, Israel's holy God.

10:21 A few of the people of Israel will come back to their mighty God.

10:22 Even though now there are as many people of Israel as there are grains of sand by the sea, only a few will come back. Destruction is in store for the people, and it is fully deserved.

10:23 Yes, throughout the whole country the Sovereign Lord Almighty will bring destruction, as he said he would.

10:24 The Sovereign Lord Almighty says to his people who live in Zion, "Do not be afraid of the Assyrians, even though they oppress you as the Egyptians used to do.

10:25 In only a little while I will finish punishing you, and then I will destroy them.

10:26 I, the Lord Almighty, will beat them with my whip as I did the people of Midian at Oreb Rock. I will punish Assyria as I punished Egypt.

10:27 When that time comes, I will free you from the power of Assyria, and their yoke will no longer be a burden on your shoulders."

10:28 The enemy army has captured the city of Ai! They have passed through Migron! They left their supplies at Michmash!

10:29 They have crossed the pass and are spending the night at Geba! The people in the town of Ramah are terrified, and the people in King Saul's hometown of Gibeah have run away.

10:30 Shout, people of Gallim! Listen, people of Laishah! Answer, people of Anathoth!

10:31 The people of Madmenah and Gebim are running for their lives.

10:32 Today the enemy are in the town of Nob, and there they are shaking their fists at Mount Zion, at the city of Jerusalem.

10:33 The Lord Almighty will bring them crashing down like branches cut off a tree. The proudest and highest of them will be cut down and humiliated.

10:34 The Lord will cut them down as trees in the heart of the forest are cut down with an ax, as even the finest trees of Lebanon fall!
