2:4 そこで王は祭司長たちと民の律法学者たちとを全部集めて、キリストはどこに生れるのかと、彼らに問いただした。
2:5 彼らは王に言った、「それはユダヤのベツレヘムです。預言者がこうしるしています、
2:6 『ユダの地、ベツレヘムよ、おまえはユダの君たちの中で、決して最も小さいものではない。おまえの中からひとりの君が出て、わが民イスラエルの牧者となるであろう』」。
2:7 そこで、ヘロデはひそかに博士たちを呼んで、星の現れた時について詳しく聞き、
2:8 彼らをベツレヘムにつかわして言った、「行って、その幼な子のことを詳しく調べ、見つかったらわたしに知らせてくれ。わたしも拝みに行くから」。
2:9 彼らは王の言うことを聞いて出かけると、見よ、彼らが東方で見た星が、彼らより先に進んで、幼な子のいる所まで行き、その上にとどまった。
2:10 彼らはその星を見て、非常な喜びにあふれた。
2:11 そして、家にはいって、母マリヤのそばにいる幼な子に会い、ひれ伏して拝み、また、宝の箱をあけて、黄金・乳香・没薬などの贈り物をささげた。
2:12 そして、夢でヘロデのところに帰るなとのみ告げを受けたので、他の道をとおって自分の国へ帰って行った。

2:6 『ユダの地、ベツレヘム。あなたはユダを治める者たちの中で、決して一番小さくはない。わたしの民イスラエルを治める支配者が、あなたから出るのだから。』」
2:7 そこで、ヘロデはひそかに博士たちを呼んで、彼らから星の出現の時間を突き止めた。
2:8 そして、こう言って彼らをベツレヘムに送った。「行って幼子のことを詳しく調べ、わかったら知らせてもらいたい。私も行って拝むから。」
2:9 彼らは王の言ったことを聞いて出かけた。すると、見よ、東方で見た星が彼らを先導し、ついに幼子のおられる所まで進んで行き、その上にとどまった。
2:10 その星を見て、彼らはこの上もなく喜んだ。

2:6 『ユダの地、ベツレヘムよ、／お前はユダの指導者たちの中で／決していちばん小さいものではない。お前から指導者が現れ、／わたしの民イスラエルの牧者となるからである。』」
2:7 そこで、ヘロデは占星術の学者たちをひそかに呼び寄せ、星の現れた時期を確かめた。
2:8 そして、「行って、その子のことを詳しく調べ、見つかったら知らせてくれ。わたしも行って拝もう」と言ってベツレヘムへ送り出した。
2:9 彼らが王の言葉を聞いて出かけると、東方で見た星が先立って進み、ついに幼子のいる場所の上に止まった。
2:10 学者たちはその星を見て喜びにあふれた。

2:4 And when he had
gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired
of them where the Christ was to be born.
2:5 So they said to him,
"In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:
2:6 'But you, Bethlehem,
in the land of Judah,Are not the least among the rulers of Judah;For out of you
shall come a RulerWho will shepherd My people Israel.' "
2:7 Then Herod, when he
had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star
appeared.
2:8 And he sent them to
Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when
you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him
also."
2:9 When they heard the
king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went
before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
2:10 When they saw the
star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
2:11 And when they had
come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell
down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they
presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
2:12 Then, being divinely
warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their
own country another way.

2:4 He called together
all the chief priests and the teachers of the Law and asked them, "Where
will the Messiah be born?"
2:5 "In the town of
Bethlehem in Judea," they answered. "For this is what the prophet
wrote:
2:6 "Bethlehem in
the land of Judah, /you are by no means the least of the leading cities of
Judah; /for from you will come a leader /who will guide my people
Israel."'
2:7 So Herod called the
visitors from the East to a secret meeting and found out from them the exact time
the star had appeared.
2:8 Then he sent them to
Bethlehem with these instructions: "Go and make a careful search for the
child; and when you find him, let me know, so that I too may go and worship
him."
2:9 -10 And so they left,
and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they
saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until
it stopped over the place where the child was.
2:10
2:11 They went into the
house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and
worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh,
and presented them to him.
2:12 Then they returned
to their country by another road, since God had warned them in a dream not to
go back to Herod.
