3:7 ヨハネは、パリサイ人やサドカイ人が大ぜいバプテスマを受けようとしてきたのを見て、彼らに言った、「まむしの子らよ、迫ってきている神の怒りから、おまえたちはのがれられると、だれが教えたのか。
3:8 だから、悔改めにふさわしい実を結べ。
3:9 自分たちの父にはアブラハムがあるなどと、心の中で思ってもみるな。おまえたちに言っておく、神はこれらの石ころからでも、アブラハムの子を起すことができるのだ。
3:10 斧がすでに木の根もとに置かれている。だから、良い実を結ばない木はことごとく切られて、火の中に投げ込まれるのだ。
3:11 わたしは悔改めのために、水でおまえたちにバプテスマを授けている。しかし、わたしのあとから来る人はわたしよりも力のあるかたで、わたしはそのくつをぬがせてあげる値うちもない。このかたは、聖霊と火とによっておまえたちにバプテスマをお授けになるであろう。
3:12 また、箕を手に持って、打ち場の麦をふるい分け、麦は倉に納め、からは消えない火で焼き捨てるであろう」。

3:7 しかし、パリサイ人やサドカイ人が大ぜいバプテスマを受けに来るのを見たとき、ヨハネは彼らに言った。「まむしのすえたち。だれが必ず来る御怒りをのがれるように教えたのか。
3:8 それなら、悔い改めにふさわしい実を結びなさい。
3:9 『われわれの先祖はアブラハムだ。』と心の中で言うような考えではいけません。あなたがたに言っておくが、神は、この石ころからでも、アブラハムの子孫を起こすことがおできになるのです。
3:10 斧もすでに木の根元に置かれています。だから、良い実を結ばない木は、みな切り倒されて、火に投げ込まれます。
3:11 私は、あなたがたが悔い改めるために、水のバプテスマを授けていますが、私のあとから来られる方は、私よりもさらに力のある方です。私はその方のはきものを脱がせてあげる値うちもありません。その方は、あなたがたに聖霊と火とのバプテスマをお授けになります。

3:7 But when he saw many
of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them,
"Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8 "Therefore bear
fruits worthy of repentance,
3:9 "and do not
think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you
that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
3:10 "And even now
the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not
bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
3:11 "I indeed
baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is
mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you
with the Holy Spirit and fire.
3:12 "His winnowing
fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and
gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable
fire."

3:7 When John saw many
Pharisees and Sadducees coming to him to be baptized, he said to them,
"You snakes-who told you that you could escape from the punishment God is
about to send?
3:8 Do those things that
will show that you have turned from your sins.
3:9 And don't think you
can escape punishment by saying that Abraham is your ancestor. I tell you that
God can take these rocks and make descendants for Abraham!
3:10 The ax is ready to
cut down the trees at the roots; every tree that does not bear good fruit will
be cut down and thrown in the fire.
3:11 I baptize you with
water to show that you have repented, but the one who will come after me will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. He is much greater than I am; and I
am not good enough even to carry his sandals.
3:12 He has his winnowing
shovel with him to thresh out all the grain. He will gather his wheat into his
barn, but he will burn the chaff in a fire that never goes out."
