11:6 わたしにつまずかない者は、さいわいである」。
11:7 彼らが帰ってしまうと、イエスはヨハネのことを群衆に語りはじめられた、「あなたがたは、何を見に荒野に出てきたのか。風に揺らぐ葦であるか。
11:8 では、何を見に出てきたのか。柔らかい着物をまとった人か。柔らかい着物をまとった人々なら、王の家にいる。
11:9 では、なんのために出てきたのか。預言者を見るためか。そうだ、あなたがたに言うが、預言者以上の者である。
11:10 『見よ、わたしは使をあなたの先につかわし、あなたの前に、道を整えさせるであろう』と書いてあるのは、この人のことである。
11:11 あなたがたによく言っておく。女の産んだ者の中で、バプテスマのヨハネより大きい人物は起らなかった。しかし、天国で最も小さい者も、彼よりは大きい。
11:12 バプテスマのヨハネの時から今に至るまで、天国は激しく襲われている。そして激しく襲う者たちがそれを奪い取っている。
11:13 すべての預言者と律法とが預言したのは、ヨハネの時までである。
11:14 そして、もしあなたがたが受けいれることを望めば、この人こそは、きたるべきエリヤなのである。
11:15 耳のある者は聞くがよい。
11:16 今の時代を何に比べようか。それは子供たちが広場にすわって、ほかの子供たちに呼びかけ、
11:17 『わたしたちが笛を吹いたのに、あなたたちは踊ってくれなかった。弔いの歌を歌ったのに、胸を打ってくれなかった』と言うのに似ている。
11:18 なぜなら、ヨハネがきて、食べることも、飲むこともしないと、あれは悪霊につかれているのだ、と言い、
11:19 また人の子がきて、食べたり飲んだりしていると、見よ、あれは食をむさぼる者、大酒を飲む者、また取税人、罪人の仲間だ、と言う。しかし、知恵の正しいことは、その働きが証明する」。

11:11 まことに、あなたがたに告げます。女から生まれた者の中で、バプテスマのヨハネよりすぐれた人は出ませんでした。しかも、天の御国の一番小さい者でも、彼より偉大です。
11:12 バプテスマのヨハネの日以来今日まで、天の御国は激しく攻められています。そして、激しく攻める者たちがそれを奪い取っています。
11:13 ヨハネに至るまで、すべての預言者たちと律法とが預言をしたのです。

he who is not offended because of Me."
11:7 As they departed,
Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out
into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
11:8 "But what did
you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft
clothing are in kings' houses.
11:9 "But what did
you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
11:10 "For this is
he of whom it is written:'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,Who will
prepare Your way before You.'
11:11 "Assuredly, I
say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John
the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
11:12 "And from the
days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and
the violent take it by force.
11:13 "For all the
prophets and the law prophesied until John.
11:14 "And if you
are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.
11:15 "He who has
ears to hear, let him hear!
11:16 "But to what
shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces
and calling to their companions,
11:17 "and
saying:'We played the flute for you,And you did not dance;We mourned to you,And
you did not lament.'
11:18 "For John came
neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'
11:19 "The Son of
Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a winebibber,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her
children."

11:6 How happy are those
who have no doubts about me!"
11:7 While John's
disciples were leaving, Jesus spoke about him to the crowds: "When you
went out to John in the desert, what did you expect to see? A blade of grass
bending in the wind?
11:8 What did you go out
to see? A man dressed up in fancy clothes? People who dress like that live in
palaces!
11:9 Tell me, what did
you go out to see? A prophet? Yes indeed, but you saw much more than a prophet.
11:10 For John is the one
of whom the scripture says: "God said, I will send my messenger ahead of
you to open the way for you.'
11:11 I assure you that
John the Baptist is greater than anyone who has ever lived. But the one who is
least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than John.
11:12 From the time John
preached his message until this very day the Kingdom of heaven has suffered
violent attacks, and violent men try to seize it.
11:13 Until the time of
John all the prophets and the Law of Moses spoke about the Kingdom;
11:14 and if you are
willing to believe their message, John is Elijah, whose coming was predicted.
11:15 Listen, then, if
you have ears!
11:16 "Now, to what
can I compare the people of this day? They are like children sitting in the
marketplace. One group shouts to the other,
11:17 "We played
wedding music for you, but you wouldn't dance! We sang funeral songs, but you
wouldn't cry!'
11:18 When John came, he
fasted and drank no wine, and everyone said, "He has a demon in him!'
11:19 When the Son of Man
came, he ate and drank, and everyone said, "Look at this man! He is a
glutton and wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and other outcasts!' God's
wisdom, however, is shown to be true by its results."
