22:18 イエスは彼らの悪意を知って言われた。「偽善者たち。なぜ、わたしをためすのか。
22:19 納め金にするお金をわたしに見せなさい。」そこで彼らは、デナリを一枚イエスのもとに持って来た。
22:20 そこで彼らに言われた。「これは、だれの肖像ですか。だれの銘ですか。」

22:15 Then the Pharisees
went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.
22:16 And they sent to
Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You
are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for
You do not regard the person of men.
22:17 "Tell us,
therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or
not?"
22:18 But Jesus perceived
their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?
22:19 "Show Me the
tax money." So they brought Him a denarius.
22:20 And He said to
them, "Whose image and inscription is this?"
22:21 They said to Him,
"Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the
things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
22:22 When they had heard
these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.

22:15 The Pharisees went
off and made a plan to trap Jesus with questions.
22:16 Then they sent to
him some of their disciples and some members of Herod's party.
"Teacher," they said, "we know that you tell the truth. You
teach the truth about God's will for people, without worrying about what others
think, because you pay no attention to anyone's status.
22:17 Tell us, then, what
do you think? Is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor, or
not?"
22:18 Jesus, however, was
aware of their evil plan, and so he said, "You hypocrites! Why are you
trying to trap me?
22:19 Show me the coin
for paying the tax!" /They brought him the coin,
22:20 and he asked them,
"Whose face and name are these?"
22:21 "The
Emperor's," they answered. /So Jesus said to them, "Well, then, pay
to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to
God."
22:22 When they heard
this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.
